If I'm working by the hour, how can I track my time?

I do some freelance work that require that I put in a minimum number of hours, even when being paid by the project. This ensures the client that I will devote a certain amount of time for the work involved and so I always price accordingly. So far, I am just reporting the hours worked on specific days but feel like I might want to use a software to provide accountability for myself. Can you recommend something?

You could try SpudCity.

http://www.spudcity.com/index.html

It's not free software, but will let you track your hours. And, you can punch in and out at various times of day.

There are some other software that will screen capture your desktop at various intervals through out the day and email a pic to your customers. This could be something worth using if you want proof for the client that you are devoting time to their work. Then again, maybe you have to do the work off of your computer too and there might be no way to document that time.

Maybe you could try redcort. It is for payroll but it still tracks time.

Most freelance services websites require this type of software to be used if you are completing a job. In this way, the customer knows if you are working or simply taking off time to browse Facebook.

I usually just track it on a piece of paper and round up or down.

I usually do not track my time online but just keep an eye on the clock if I need to.

I work on upwork.com and they have their own time tracker software that you have to install and record the screen and time while working. @op, I suggest you search google for softwares as that one.
