this makes me mad

I write a lot and one of my clients was suppose to send me stuff to work on this weekend. Well he did not and now he wants me to work hard this week to get it done but I took on another big job and just do not have the time. He is asking me to push the other job behind so I can do the work for him since he asked first but I do not feel that is fair. what is your take on it?

Do not take it on. If he can not be responsible, then that is his fault, not yours.

Your client needs to get better organized with his work schedule and not expect you to delay prior obligations. If he is willing to pay you, then allot some time to working on his gig but don't delay everything else you are required to complete. That will only ruin your reputation as a writer.

You will only have so many free hours in the day and your time is available on a first come first serve basis. And, if your original client delayed giving you the information you needed to start the job (or simply failed to order), then he can't later come back and say that he 'reserved' your time now as your time is already being bought and paid for by another buyer.

Set the boundaries and stick with them. If you have a blog/website be sure to include what your expectations are for your clients, as you have to ensure they receive great quality and truly unique content. If you are going to feel pressured over unrealistic deadlines, then this won't just effect their work, but it will effect your other clients as well.

Be your own boss, set the rules and stick with them this makes me mad this makes me mad

Thanks everyone. I do not think that I should have to suffer just because my client can not get his act together. I refused to put him first and he has not ever used my services again....which is fine. Less stress for me.
