What will you do if you find out that a forum member is copying entire posts from another site?

Be mad and then contact the forum about it so they can not do it any more.

Many times, a forum owner won't realize there is copied posts or content from another site on their forum. It's good to send a private message or email to the person alerting them as most likely they will not want it on their site anyway. Copied content hurts a forum. The content needs to be original for the pages to rank well in Google search.

I agree that copied content only hurts a site. And often times the webmaster is so wrapped up in all that he or she has to do that if they do not realize it, then it gets left alone and the person can continue to do it. So best to let the webmaster know asap.

For me, the biggest warning that content is copied from another site is when a very new forum member joins and starts posting entire page length articles. This is a tactic used by spammers who are just trying to earn a signature link very quickly. They take the content off another site and then repost to your forum. The easiest way to tell whether or not content is copied is to excerpt a sample and run it through Google search.

Report the site to Google for a DMCA takedown. Although you could give the site owner a chance to take the content down first voluntarily before taking this step.

I give them a serious warning or ban depending on how severe and then I will delete the stolen content and then inform the owner and apologize for my member doing such a thing.

In recent weeks, I had a new member on one of my forums copying my own content that I had written on the same forum. I had advised her to start contributing her own content, as copying mine or anyone else's posts would get her banned. Whenever I see a really long post, the first thought that goes through my head is how it might be copied from another site. And, in the past that was usually true especially for longer articles posted as a thread. It's easy enough to check to see where the article was copied from. You can do that for your own forum or any forum you manage.

Fair point. A forum member might assume it's alright. A friendly reminder via pm not to copy from other sites would be a good idea. Then if they continued you could issue a warning.

I guess forums should be clear on the copy paste prohibition. I know that some writers are doing that for not knowing the rules. Susceptible to that violation are the newbies. My question on the issue is how would we know that a post was an exact copy?

I think this is very wrong on all levels and the admin of such forum should delete such post,caution the poster or ask the poster to re-edit the post before posting.

I have noticed this on one of the popular forum I belong to.A poster will just lift an article from another and post on there and the admin would give a blind eye,which is very wrong.I will delete the post totally.

It is not always good for writers to try such on forums for it is a violation of the rules that guide writing in general. So, talking to the person about what he/she is doing is the first step to take in order to make things better for both parties.
