Free advertising forums were once very common. Now the only ones i see are filled with spam as they don't have full time moderators or the job of spam control is too great for the staff.

But wouldn't it be bad on your site if you post your link on a forum that's full of spam?

Of course, i'm talking about some time back. Free ad forums were very popular eight or nine years ago when i first got online. Back then, you could have backlinks from almost any source and hidden text/copied material was common place and not really cause for Google penalties. Now, i'd say avoid those spam type sites.

Eight years ago (or even just a few years back), many of the things we consider blackhat were actually white hat and very common place including using copied articles from article sites. Things have changed now as Google seeks to fine tune it's search engine to maximize the search user's experience.

I would love to see how sites do on that time. I mean, it's easy to get a site back then. By just copying articles, your site can gain visitors. No sweat!

Yes you can do lot of free advertisemnt of lot of forums available out there but problem will be many other people doing the same means no.of people doing it are so high that there is very little chance that your advertisement will be seen by each member ...

There is really no such thing as "free advertising". It either costs you time, money or both! I guess the only thing that can be considered true free advertising is the residual effect you get from an initial advertising campaign. For instance, it might take you only an hour to set-up a certain campaign but then it keeps producing results for weeks, months or years! Try Press Releases or getting some type of media coverage, it might cost you a bit to get good press releases written and some PR going, but once you get some good media coverage that can make a great impact on your business indefinitely - and become the best "free advertising" you could ever get!

social media and social book marking sites offer free advertising, some sites offer free advertising through classified ads. You can also paste posters and flyers on public places and public notice boards, which is also a free advertising.

Glad you asked this question because I was thinking about it.

I think OLX is only aimed at Indian customers. There is also another app to post free ads and it is called Quikr, I think this app only works in India.
One of the best places to place free ads is promotion and webmaster forums. However, always look for forums that have a large user base.

I stumbled across Facebook Marketplace. They say it was started in 2016. I have not tried it yet but looks like others are using it frequently.

Social media is a place for free advertising because you can post your advertisement there without charges. If you have friends in social media who are into drop shipping you will notice their posts about the products that they are selling. They are posting that kind of advertisement from time to time and even earning from that style of free advertisement. The only caveat in that kind of free advertisement is that you cannot abuse it for you will be tagged as spamming already.
