A no follow link is a link that does not count as a point in the page’s favor, does not boost PageRank, and doesn’t help a page’s placement in the SERPs.
Follow links are links that count as points, pushing SEO link juice and boosting the page rank of the linked-to sites, helping them go higher in the SERPs as a result.

Do you mean to say that if I post my site’s link on a site that is a no-follow URL then that backlink is considered null in terms of search engines that it will not be beneficial for the SEO? Maybe that is why the do-follow and no-follow link is getting to be a big issue now because of the benefits that the site gets from the backlinks. But I presume that the backlink on a no-follow URL is still a beneficial backlink when a reader clicks on it.

Actually it all related to link juice.
If any link is no-follow then it means it will not pass any link juice to linking site.

Hi,

Nofollow links will give you traffic, but it will not pass any juice or advantages like dofollow links. Atleast google counts dofollow links only for seo.

Nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines bots that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place. This is a concept introduced by Matt Cutts and Jason Shellen in the year 2005.
Nofollow links attributes do not allow search engine bots to follow link.That means if the website owner is linking back to you with nofollow attributes, it does not pass on link juice. Only Humans will be able to follow the links. Though some time back Google made it clear that they don’t consider nofollow link attributes but weightage of such links are really less. Even though, it’s a good practice to use Nofollow link attribute to those link, where you don’t want to pass link-juice.

It is true that nofollow link will not help in google ranking. However if you have 100% dofollow backlinks to your website, it also not good for the ranking.

No follow is a value that can be designated to the rel attribute of an HTML element. It orders search engines that the hyperlink shouldn't influence the ranking of the links target in the search engine index.

Webmaster design their site to instruct Google spider that the following links shouldn't pass any link juice to the search engine ranking.

In a particular website while writing the code they edited as a nofollow attributes for some of the option in the website, which means informing to the search engine do not consider that link so if the search engine crawl the website if they find your link they won't consider as a quality backlink
