    When is it OK to get a reciprocal link?

    All reciprocal backlinks can't be bad, can they? Sometimes, you link to a blog post, because you find it useful and the blog owner (of the post you linked to), links back to one of your own posts (maybe not linking to the same page, but certainly the same blog). Do you think this type of reciprocal backlink is acceptable to Google? Or, are all reciprocal backlinks bad?

    Google only mentions "excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you") as being a bad thing, not the occasional reciprocal link exchange. Once again, they don't like the idea that people are trying to manipulate search engine placement with backlinks. Assuming the backlink is coming from someone who really wants to link to you (without incentive, even reciprocal link), it's probably not going to be seen as a bad thing.

    Well You should have 2 good websites, ask to link to one of them and put a link on Your second. Never do link for link.

    Google will easily recognize this as a trick. Best to have site one link to site two and then site three links to yours, while you link back to site 1 or 2. That will be a little less obvious.

    I don't like reciprocal links. Sometimes I will post a link to someone's site if I like their content, but only to a specific page. I'd prefer they link back to a specific page not just my homepage as that doesn't really help anyone out.

    You can get a few, in 100, you can get 2 reciprocal links, it may not harm as well.

    Does Google consider it a reciprocal link if you are linking back to an inner page while the other person links back to one of your posts, not the home page? Maybe it would only be considered a spammy link if the reciprocal link was only to the homepage.

    I think reciprocal links are always useful. I mean, reciprocal links are still backlinks, isn't it? But make sure you don't have hell lot of reciprocal links, otherwise google tends to think that you are trading backlinks!
