There is no easy way around this, you need to write good quality articles on your niche. Go in depth with your niche, digging deep to cover subjects about your niche that other bloggers miss. You will be in a much better position with Google and your readers if you do.

You only need ONE really good authority site that covers subjects in depth and these days that seems to be Wikipedia. That site is recognized as an authority on almost every subject, very much like an encyclopedia.

Making sure you get your link out to other authority sites with in your niche is extremely important, as it provides you with some of their traffic (coming directly from the authority). Having your site updated with regular, SEO friendly content NATURALLY and pinging it after every update.

Choose forums that are worth the time and energy to consistently post in. It's better to post regularly in a handful of forums to build up lots of clientele, then take on multiple accounts forgetting about 75% of them. Unless, of course you had just joined them to get a backlink, then that's different.

When you view your stats (statcounter, etc) pay attention to what keywords people are searching for.
WRITE THEM DOWN, and see if you notice any patterns. If you happen to see a trend, maybe write a post or two about the various keywords that have been searched multiple times. Perhaps you could even target specific countries (top three countries from your stats) by picking articles/posts based on their culture, tourism, historical events, etc. in combination with the keywords used.

There's a variety of things you can do to get your site viewed as "Authority".
It just takes a lot of work, and it takes time.
If someone thinks their site is going to be an authority site overnight or with in just a month, they would be sadly mistaken, as it can take months to get out of the sandbox.

I guess it is not that easy to be an authority. You will not to focus on a particular niche and should be writing factual articles or blogs that are beneficial to your readers. One example is a blogger about herbs that his readers benefit from his blogs. He is also consulted for herbal treatments to diseases. Being like a doctor is an impression of authority on the subject.
