How many keywords should be used for one website?

After the latest Google penguin update, does anyone know about how many maximum keywords can we target for one website and without getting any penalty?

5 - 6 keywords is better for one page.

You should have only 1 main keyword.. It depends on the quality and the length of the article, but I am pretty sure 2-3 secondary keywords are pretty enough for 1 page (you will write another article for some other keywords!) ;)

There is no limit, but first use long tail keywords then use short term keywords to get quick result from search engine like Google, and Yahoo.

Just do what is required google doesnt likes excess use of keywords also it doesnt means multiple keywords at all it means using same keywords multiple times so avoid that and try to use synonyms for your keyword if you want to use multiple times . Use Yoast seo wordpress plugin its best so far .

You can use 2 to 3 keywords for your webpage. In my opinion 4 to 5 keywords are perfect match for single webpage.

It depends on your website content and keyword strategy, one thing I can surely confirm there is no limit of keywords which you can target to rank. It all depends on SEO expertise.

I have come across several discussions about keyword density on the web page and most are saying about the percentage of keywords vis-à-vis the content. But I think it is better to be safe by putting in a maximum of 5 keywords on the web page that is not including the tags that you place in the HTML (I think that is called the meta tag). Working in percentage is not good enough because the longer the article, the more keywords that you can put in.
