When you think your site has been penalized

Recently, I noticed a decrease in my site traffic. I don't know if this was related to some algorithmic update from Google or something else. I have been marketing in the same way for well over a year, using a combination of social media interaction (on Pinterest Facebook and Twitter) as well as search engine traffic.

With this decrease, my Adsense earnings has also decreased. This is the part that bothers me most as I'm relying on my Adsense income.

Is it possible there was an update or penalty that I don't know about?

Has your site dropped in search engine ranking recently? If so, that could be related to a penalty imposed by Google or algorithm.

The drop in traffic could be related to something else, such as seasonal fluctuation in traffic. Some sites will have more or less traffic during summer and Christmas vacation.

It will just depend based on your own site niche.

There are many types of penalties.

1. your site gets outs of google
2. you lose all your rankings
3. new posts stop ranking
4. Some posts rank while some do not.

by the way mozcast shows that on 30 or 31st march there was a huge change in rankings. Maybe that might be the reason

Some newer sites will do the Google dance, or fluctuate in search engine ranking so the spot is different every day. And, this can happen for many reasons. For one thing, Google will often test out various sites to see if that site is the best one to rank for a specific keyword. If more information becomes information and they find a better site to rank for that keyword, then the one(s) that had ranked previously will drop in search rankings and be replaced by other sites.

Getting penalized is completely different case, in that case your website will not get any traffic from Google.

Dropping traffic does not mean that your site is penalized. There may be reason of algorithm update by Google.

First analyse your traffic drop down whether there is no traffic or low traffic. If traffic has been lowered down it may be hit by some algorithm otherwise it has been penalized.
