When did Facebook become so important?

At what point did Facebook become the biggest fish in the social networking pond? At one time, Myspace was everything anyone could talk about. Now they are a big joke.

Facebook started gaining popularity over Myspace around five years ago. This did not happen over night, more gradually as people got tired of the never changing Myspace site and migrated to Facebook.

On personal note, Facebook became important to me when Irealized that I can use my Facebook account to connect to my relatives and
friends particularly those who are residing abroad. I call it rainbow
connection. We seem to be seeing each other often, every day or every other day
in Facebook with their posts and mine. And now that online business is getting
popular, Facebook is a great tool to promote the business.

I must say that the ease with which any user of Facebook can partake on events happening on that site made Facebook gain so much popularity. What that means is that you can register on the site and get used to the interface with little help.

I agree that Facebook became popular because of their easier experience. If you remember my space it was a complete mess. I didn't use it very frequently but I remember the few times I used it I was absolutely confused. The site was very untidy and had a steep learning curve. Facebook also had a better marketing team, if you think about nearly everybody that you know is on Myspace.
