    How unique does a video compilation have to be for Youtube?

    On Youtube, there are many video compilations, such as scenes from anime spliced with snippets of popular songs, etc. How unique does a video compilation have to be in order for it to comply with copyright law? For instance, if the snippets of video are only a few seconds each, rather than an entire episode, so the entire thing is more like a montage, would that work?

    You see this on many music videos on Youtube, also gamer videos that take images from copyright games and then add music. So long as the scenes are not taken in entirety, such as they are excerpts, you should be fine.

    This copyright thing is a tricky part. I don’t know much with the video but with the song, it should be 2 lines before it can be considered infringement on copyright. That 2 lines actually mean 2 frames which is, I think, 12 beats. But for a 2-second video excerpt, maybe that wouldn’t constitute an infringement because it is very small. However, the limitation on the length of the video is meant for the identification of the said video. So if your excerpt is 2 seconds but the video shows the title of the anime then that is clearly an infringement of copyright.
