Do you use subdomains?

Whenever I purchase a domain, I try to make sure that I can use it for multiple purposes including subdomains. So for instance, my main site might be mysite.com and then I'd put my blog on a subdomain such as myblog.mysite.com

Do you use subdomains (of your primary domain) for extra value?

I don't ever consider sub domains when I purchase. A sub domain is essentially a new site in search engines and is like starting over. If in going to start over ill just buy a new domain.

Im not using subdomains becouse I haven't any website currently and I dont need to have, but I do recommend you to use them as far as it is more comfortable (to type, remember, etc). For me its much easier to remember myblog.mysite.com than to remember mysite.com/myblog . Using subdomains also will help you to segregate your contents in better way.

Yes but the disadvantage to the above is that myblog.mysite.com is considered a brand new site in the eyes of the search engines, and mysite.com/myblog gets the SEO benefits that mysite.com already has. At least that is the way I understand it.
Personally I only go for subdomains if I am doing completely different tasks with a domain. I used to use them a lot before, but now not so much.

I have like two sub-domains under my main site. It's a good way if you want to have the page stay on a certain topic as much as possible.

I've used subdomains before, which actually were more successful and outranked the primary domain for keywords. Of course, the sites were not related; just saying for some reason, it was just as easy to get those subdomains ranked as the TLD. Perhaps, it had something to do with backlinking or constant content being published.

And, what do you use these subdomains for? Are they like FTP space or maybe a blog or forum related to your main site?

sub domains are essential part of a domain. I use it all the times. I can use subdomains for forum, blogs, file share etc. It is always beneficial to have subdomains.

It's a good idea. But I was wondering, does it help you save on bandwidth by having the video streaming on a different subdomain? Or, is there another reason to split up your site like this?

You can look at about.com, it is using sub domain as category and it is an authority site now.

On Hubpages, they gave each writer their own subdomain for articles, so I'm guessing it's treated as a unique site separate from the TLD for search engine ranking.

I use subdomains in similar fashion. I dedicate a page/subdomain for a niche and then on my homepage I show news from every subdomain. It helps me attracting users from various age group and regions.

I don't really use my own host to host videos. We mostly use Facebook videos, YouTube and Dailymotion.

I guess most of us do it that way. As hosting a video and then allowing millions of people to stream it might require hell lot of bandwidth !

But when user sees a video on your site hosted by youtube or some other site my bandwidth will not be wasted or used ? I mean still user will be on my site, right ?

You can upload videos to Youtube and then get the video embed code and place onto your site/blog post. Then people will have a chance to see it on your site. They can also choose to view on Youtube.

To addon on what beverly said, the amount of bandwidth consumed will be minimal if a user is seeing a video hosted on youtube on your site. As bulk of bandwidth is coming from youtube strea Do you use subdomains?

Sometimes youtube ban or suspend a video, and when they do it and you are linking those video in your site then your site viewers can't view the video! That is one possible reason why people upload videos on there site Do you use subdomains?

I have created subdomains for my website couple of times, I even used a subdomain for a while, however, I am not very comfortable using a subdomain. In fact I don't see why I should use a subdomain when I can publish everything within the domain.
