Do you think idiots know they are idiots?

I adore Charles Bukowski, he is one of my most favorite writers. I confront idiots all the time and many times I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes from Mr. Bukowski. Here it is:-

"The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence."

What do you think about the same?

I do not think that they know what they are. But really it is hard to say.

If we are talking about the actual meaning of idiot, it would be: a person of the lowest order in a former and discarded classification of mental retardation, having a mental age of less than three years old and an intelligence quotient under 25.

If that's the case, I'd say probably. I think they are aware of them being different from others.

That being said, "idiots" are everywhere, if we're talking about foolish and senseless people. Most of them knows for sure that they are acting stupid/foolish and childish for the time being..

Yes, we are talking about foolish people here. The word "idiot" is nowadays used in that context only.

I often wondered this myself, sometimes when a person is acting out so ridicules. I wonder if they are aware of their actions. I think there are simply people who the way they are and they are not aware either because they are mentally ill or really stubborn people.

Do you think idiots know they are idiots? LOL. Never heard anybody pose the question that way.

If you follow through by responding "Surely! They must know!" ... then your next follow up questions are:
  • Why do they remain an idiot?
  • Why don't they change?
  • Why don't they stop themselves?
  • Is it beyond their control?"

Uuummm ... let me think on it. I think ... I said "I think" ... Some people set themselves on a certain path. They've convinced themselves they're headed in the right direction. If they mess up, they write it off and say "Next time!" So they rinse and repeat.

I'm thinking ... maybe they don't know. (O.o) And it's their fault that they don't know. Because no doubt many have tried to redirect them and show them a better way, but they deliberately chose to stay on the course ... heading in the wrong direction.

If we can consider Rolly an idiot then I can say he doesn't know he is one. Rolly is my husband's cousin who is afflicted with advanced dementia at age 58. He is beginning to forget names and faces. When people meet him, he is asked of the person's name. Isn't it absurd and insulting to ask someone if he knows your name? Rolly is now like a child who has a nanny to look after him. Truly he doesn't know his condition.

I think lot of what happens with people is they react. And that's what makes them idiots on that point. You'd understand that in some cases it'd not solve that issues. You can see that people react to something they have no control over. I think we have to always control how we react. That's how the life needs to be balanced. If you do react in a way you don't understand how that is going to change the world. I think that's the part you will find out when you argue with idiots.

I totally support that quote. I still believe no one is stupid. You only call another person an idiot when you think you are perfect. Instead of wasting your time on idiots* you should hang around people you won't judge. Everyone will then be happy and no one's feelings will be hurt.

Well, I think that nobody is a complete idiot. Otherwise, it won't survive for a long time. On the contrary, I think people tend to pretend to be idiots, or they make others see them like that. That's what makes me feel really angry, because they just want to take advantage from me, by pretending to be idiots. And if they're doing it, it's because is working. So, whenever someone try to play that part, I just tell them straight, don't make yourself idiot, because you know what I'm talking about.

Idiots people know exactly what they doing. If they doing stupidity am pretty sure they know they are idiots.
Many idiots around and they are proud to be like idiots. I have no idea why. They should live the way it should be. Living happy is easy.

REVISITED.
This is by far the most difficult question I have ever come across. For guidance and an answer, I looked to the proverbs written by King Solomon. They don't use the word “idiot”. The word that is used is “fool”. I don't know if there is a fine line between the two or if they are both the same. Let's say for this discussion that IDIOT = FOOL. The proverb says: “It is better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool in his folly.”

How does one interpret this proverb?

My Interpretation:
Do you think idiots know they are idiots?

Who in their right mind wants to confront an angry momma bear?

But if you have to choose between an angry bear and
an idiot or fool … TAKE THE BEAR!!

You might be able to reason with the bear!

That is some comparison, isn't it?

Not only does the idiot not know that they are an idiot.
But you shouldn't even waste your time trying to tell 'em!
