How to do brand name research and build your brand on other sites

If you own a business or a website. You probably have a business name, acronym or are targeting some keywords. These could either be your brands name like SEOClerk or something or the keywords you are trying to target like "seo services" etc or something. And you would want to use these keywords on other sites where you could in the username of those sites before your competitors do!

Example: Say you wanted to take up the Twitter username handle for something like "@SEOClerk". Well you could not because @SEOClerk have already taken it! (Even though it's just an egg as @SEOClerks is the official one). But imagine how detrimental that could be to your business if someone already had that username or domain on another site. You would be forced to take up another username or have a different domain name to the one you want. Not always so good for business!

Well this is just part of doing domain name and brand name research before you purchase and register your domain name! You want to pick a really unique domain these days but keyword friendly domains and usernames are still important on other sites if you want to own the one that is the EMD for the keywords you're registering. Sure, EMD's don't like they did before, but they do still matter in more ways than one!

So let's say you had an idea for a new website and want to check if the name of the site (the base domain) is available to register as a username on other sites like Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram etc etc etc. You would have to visit Twitter and all the other sites manually one by one and see if it was (the domain or username) available to register and use.

That could be a very time consuming process in one run and there are literally hundreds of great social media and web 2.0 sites where you would want to have an account on today. So to check on all of the, let's say, the top 100 websites worth having an account on as a business today, would take a very long time and be a lot of work.

Wouldn't it be nice to know if your brand name you have or the keywords you're targeting were taken on all these top sites or not very quickly? It could also help you to know just what other websites are worth joining as a business as well for gaining more authority and backlinks and traffic to your website and business anyway.

That's where I want to share and talk about 2 websites that can help you do this instantly and not many people even know about these websites.

The first website is called knowem.com and it lets you know if em (them) are available by simply entering some keywords.

As you can see the interface is extremely simple to use. Just enter your brand name or keywords and it will tell you if those are available on all the other top Internet sites like social networking sites, social bookmarking sites, blogs, web 2.0 sites and more.

Once you enter your keywords it will go out and try to create accounts using dummy data and the keywords you specified and let you know if they're available to be registered or not on those sites so you can get them before your competitors do!

If you click on the link that says "Click here to search over 500 more social networks" it will do just that for you and make a quick check on those sites if the name is available to register on it or not. And this is where it gets really interesting! This will show you all the top blogging and microblogging sites, bookmarking sites, business sites, community sites, design and entertainment sites, health and information sites, music sites, news sites, photo sites, tech sites, travel and video sites. Here you can start visiting those sites and creating the account on them and snapping up that username or the domain they provide you such as seoclerk.socialsite.com or whatever.

One thing to know about knowem.com which you'll quickly notice is that they have a premium service that says they'll create accounts for you. I have never tried their Social Media Branding Creation Service. Mainly because it looks a bit pricey and also because I don't think it's really needed although it could be quite effective I guess

The second name checker site is literally called namecheckr.com and it's very similar to how knowem.com works except it's much lighter and doesn't show as many sites. Although it does show you all the top social media sites and domain names too.

And there we have it! That's two excellent sites to use for domain name and brand name research which can also help you to build and know which sites you should probably register an account on and build links on to your site before your competitors do!

If you never knew of these 2 sites then they will hopefully prove invaluable to you as they have for me over the years that I've been using them. If I want to build links to my site and find the best places where I should be starting, I start with these 2 sites. How to do brand name research and build your brand on other sites

That was really interesting. I agree with you - it would be really time consuming to go over them all, one by one and check. With the help of these sites you can do it quickly. Thanks for suggesting this as I had absolutely no idea about these sites at all.
Also, I think it is a good idea to 'book' a domain name or brand name as soon as possible, especially if you really like it. As time goes by chances are that someone else will take your idea and you would have to start thinking all over again!

This is pretty awesome How to do brand name research and build your brand on other sites I've been looking for something like this so I can use it like a checklist when setting up a new website and it's social profiles.

Namecheckr looks esthetically pleasing but seems to limit you a bit because they only show you a few domains and platforms. The look and feel of namecheckr is really nice and I wish they would add a boat load of additional platforms so I could be more at ease when I get to the end of their list and I don't have to think if someone is squatting on my domain name How to do brand name research and build your brand on other sites

Knowem seems like an awesome website because it gives you an insane amount of platforms you can register on in order to tie up your domain name or business name How to do brand name research and build your brand on other sites I was browsing through all of them and a lot of them I've never even heard of lol. I really like the fact that knowem offers a service to register on a ton of these platforms for you and build your profile up so it's not just bare bones after registration How to do brand name research and build your brand on other sites

Here's a picture of the pricing structure that knowem offers for setting everything up for you:

The pricing may be out of reach of most people since we want everything done but can't afford the $649 price tag to add our information to 300 of the top social platforms around the internet. It could definitely be worth it if done well because you could actually use this in terms of SEO and increasing your rankings for certain keywords How to do brand name research and build your brand on other sites Obviously you wouldn't be able to manage all 300 platforms everyday because there isn't enough time in a day to do so, maybe knowem will launch a dashboard that does that hmmmmm that would be nice How to do brand name research and build your brand on other sites

Namechk seems to be a good option if you are looking forward to it. I have not much looked at it as of now. I think there are some of the brands that you can use to protect your own name. I know there are some brands who make the name of others brands or subproducts. And due to their big company it works out better in the IP conflicts. I think there are also IP search for international brands too.

I think that this is a very interesting and important discussion. Most people when they start their websites never do any brand name research, me included. I think that in the long and short term this affects the audience that you can have. If your brand name is a common term in your niche, you will probably be able to attract a large audience to your site. Thanks for these tips.
