What’s the next big social network?

Anyone have the inside scoop, an educated guess or an uneducated guess about what the next GIANT in social media will be?

I’m talking BIG. Think Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Household name big. Like, “my dad knows about it” big.

Will it be something similar to what we already have, or will there be a brand NEW format... and most importantly: How and when do we get in?! What’s the next big social network?

I’d love to hear your ideas. Please feel free to throw in graphs, recent research and stats, and remember to site your sources. Nerd it up! If we put our heads together, we might just get somewhere.

Sometimes I look at the VC market and see what companies are getting funded. This is a good indicator for what is coming in the near future. Plus you get to hear about all the new ideas, platforms, business models and more. I sometime use this info as a muse for my own ideas. Generally, companies that are properly funded by venture capital or private equity firms are the ones which have an increased chance to "Take Off". It is extremely rare to see a non-funded company succeed to the stratospheric levels of a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Groupon etc...

On another note but same subject: We have two platforms that are currently in development and are about 90% complete. We are in the quite phase so, I can't tell you about it until once we are in beta. If you like, I can send you an invite when we are ready? Maybe you would like to help us and be a beta tester and get an inside scoop? It is a 100% unique and potentially disruptive technology. Maybe we will be the next big thing. What’s the next big social network?

Steemit looks like a downright scam to me. I mean where does the actual money come from?

It's all very well saying that people will earn Steemit crytocurrency.. but real money comes from somewhere and to be paid real money there needs to be real money.

Lynne, this is my #1 question regarding the website Steemit. Where does the real money come from? Even if they use an exchange to convert Steem to USD, how does one even bother to convert it into dollars without any backing? One can argue that it is rare to get steem dollars however if multiple people are posting im sure this will inflate the market and turn the steemit dollars into nothing. The seemit worth would deflate to probably less than a 10th of a cent. So with their business model it appears that they haven't worked out all the kinks before launching.

Hi Lynne, would you like to be a beta tester for my platforms that are soon to launch? See my post above. I think you'll like what we are doing and the won't be confusion about how it works but the money available for members will be quite significant. Let me know if you are interested and I'll send you and invite once we launch.

LOL I don't know where I will ever find the time! Tell me more about what exactly you would like me to do to be a tester and I'll let you know.

I only have 3 hours a day as it is to work online which is turning out to quite a difficult task!

I strongly believe that social media cannot always be about Facebook. Okay, I know that a billion of people seem to be active on Facebook, but I also hope that there are going to be several social media platforms in the future that can manage to compete with it and maybe manage to surpass it. Twitter, Linkedin and Instagram lag behind, and although I hope they will do better in the future I still hope for something fresh and new. Some possibilities seem to include Faces.com, Hyper, Ello, Shots, and SlideShare. I do hope they will see spikes in their respective popularity in the coming years.

This discussion is already an old one and until now there is no big social network in sight which means the existing big social media networks like Facebook and Twitter are still in their usual positions on top of the heap. Instagram made waves a few years ago but it stopped in a good position that it cannot be considered a giant. Perhaps the situation can only change when something drastic happens like a worldwide calamity.
