Going to Online Marketing Events?

Is any of view going to big online marketing events where maybe prominent online marketer will share their experience?
I used to be very skeptical about this type of events. Thought it was a waste of time and can teach me nothing I can already learn online.
At my current workplace am I somehow obligated to go and represent our agency to such events.

Thing is I started to really look forward in going to new events now, you learn a lot of more experienced people, you hear a lot of stories that are never told outside these events and overall you gain a lot of knowledge.

But the most important thing you can do is make connections. Real connections that can help you later in your career. The connections I've made by going to conferences have even gained me backlinks in the last few months.
So what is your take on marketing conferences?

I like and hate these type of events, it all depends on what is actually going on lol. I've gone to some of these events where it's basically paid by the advertisers who have booths set up outside of the main rooms, which is ok with me. These booths pay a premium to be there and try to market to you in order to get a few sign ups, which is normal. I like going to these types of get togethers or events because you're going in knowing that you aren't going to be asked to sign up for something every 10 seconds. Now you're asking "But isn't that what the booths do?" Nope! Normally the booths are there for you to come up to and talk, they don't usually approach you.

Now I've also been to events where you go in thinking that it's going to be all fun, games and making connections. But in reality it's a corporation throwing the event in order to get everyone to sign up. They push their products down your throat until you can't breath and just open up your wallet. These types of events are miserable because you're always being asked to sign up for THE BEST SOFTWARE IN THE WORLD!!!!! or something along those lines.

When I go to an event I want to feel welcomed, I don't want to be seen as a piece of meet with a credit card just waiting to be harvested. Give me a small get together or event where the advertisers are paying the bill and there are some good speakers and I'll go every time Going to Online Marketing Events?

Have you been to an event organized by Google? Or better yet, a Google seminar? Those are the best ones and I always do my best to be present as much as I can.

Would really love to see Rand Fishkin in such an event some day, too bad he will probably won't come to Romania anytime soon. Also Razzy, I agree on the last part, I want to feel welcome and have a nice time in general.

Overall they can offer you a great experience in that you can get to talk to various people who are obviously knowledgeable in pertinent fields. So you can learn something new, acquire new insights, and possibly learn things you were not much conversant with. So it can be a very instructive experience. Moreover, as you said, I agree that it is a great opportunity to make some valuable connections, which may come in very handy in the future. These events do not happen that often, so when they do, make sure you make the most out of them.

No, I have never been to an online marketing event. I would truly love to go though and just experience it. I would love to connect with more online marketers and just talk to more people.

Cristian how do you get to go to a Google event? That would be quite amazing.

When I read the headline of this post I assumed you were talking about a marketing event that is online, not an event about online marketing. Two very different things. As someone that just works from home all the time and the only regular outings I have outside the home is picking up and dropping off my kids in their creche. The thought of actually going to an event held by Google sounds quite exciting for my little life. Going to Online Marketing Events?

The agency I'm working with is a Google agency partner and I myself I'm a certified Google Partner. So we get invited to Google related events by default I guess.
I was also selected for Google interview once, but that's another story for another time. Going to Online Marketing Events?

You've got to be elated that your organization is sending you to represent them in such an event where you are bound to learn as well as link up with other online marketers on ways that you can improve your earnings as well as market your products online. I am looking forward to when I can save up funds to be attending such events here in Nigeria.

I used to work in the development world where the are a million conferences. They are conference almost every week. What is discussed is how to help people get out of poverty and other social justice issues. All these conferences really irritate me. I think that they don't achieve anything valuable. However I have been for an online marketing conference. I have learned alot and I have met many people who have been an invaluable resource in my business. What I advise is you look at the theme of the conference and decide if it willl benefit you.

I haven’t heard of such events here but probably if there will be one I don’t think I will have the motivation to go there. First reason is that I am not deep into online marketing although I am willing and wanting to learn for my future plans. Second reason is that I do not know anyone in the circle and I don’t want to be a stranger in events like that. Maybe if a freelancer friend will invite me then I would probably go.
