    How long before cable goes extinct?

    In this day and age, it's all about the World Wide Web and I don't think I know any one that does not use the Internet except the really elderly people. So I been thinking about cable tv and its uses for entertainment like movies and shows the news sports etc and I realized the Internet has that covered as well you can stream just about anything Netflix for movies and show you can get sports updates all that good stuff. So my question is how long before cable becomes old news and everyone is watching everything from just a computer or their phone. Or if they have a system like Xbox you can watch Netflix on your tv. Do you think cable will eventually be irrelevant ?

    I think Cable is starting to be irrelevant and woven out of the system at a moderate pace. The only concern is, is the content that is created from TV networks. How would producers make money to create new media if they can't do it via the TV stations any longer? Netflix, and Amazon have their own "original" TV shows, and I'm a bit baffled as to how they are profiting to run those "original" TV shows.

    I just hope that it'll be enjoyable to watch the TV shows via Netflix or another system. I don't watch much TV, as I have Netflix, and the Amazon Firestick so that is basically all I need at this time.. and internet.. lol

    I have just started using ShowMax for streaming and I am quite enjoying it. The biggest problem I have is that internet here in South Africa is slow and expensive so the picture and the sound is not nearly as good as it would be watching on dvd or via DSTV.

    I have been quite happy with DSTV (which is I think the equivalent to your cable) since I have been making use of the PVR which means I can record the programs I want to watch so I can watch them when I want to. However this of course involves each week scanning through all the channels to record things which is a pain. Plus I can't record two things that are showing at the same time, it conflicts and Murphey's Law says it will always be the best programs on at the same time.

    I think DSTV/ cable will slowly but surely be phased out.

    I personally would love if everything cable goes away. I hate having wires for everything. Wireless for every kind of electronic is the future.
    Though I think we will have to wait a while before something like this happens.

    My take on the issue of becoming obsolete is actually the tv channels itself and not exactly the cable channels. The tv network is a big industry and it takes so much budget to run a tv channel. Compared to Netflix, the tv network is at a big disadvantage in terms of expenditures or overhead. I have a feeling that the cable channels will assimilate itself to the streaming system because it will be cheaper to operate. There will be no more cable connections so that is lesser in expenses. With the tv channels, they will shut down when they have no more viewers who are all in the streaming system.
