    How useful do you find tags for Wordpress posts?

    I am just wondering what everyone else's experiences has been with adding tags for posts?

    This is one of the good examples of those contradicting bits of advice I was given when I first started working online.

    I starting writing my first blog post, knowing nothing about online marketing and saw the option for tags. I called the web developer that made my first website and asked what tags were all about and he said not to worry about them because they did nothing.

    For 2 years I never touched tags. Then I joined an online marketing training platform and one of the training modules mentioned using tags and they said how it can help with SEO. I was told to always add my main keyword as the tag.

    I went back through all my content, on 3 websites and added tags.

    Guess what happened?

    1. My bounce rate lowered, my readers were using tags to move around my website, a very marked difference
    2. Some of my posts ranked higher for the tag then for the actual post!

    So remember to ask more than one person for advice, I recommend asking right here where you can get a number of different people working in the field of online marketing.

    I also recommend that you try it out for yourself and see how things work for you.

    It is a unfortunate that you didn't take advantage of the tags for the two years since you saw a noticeable and positive result. I too don't do everything I should, mostly because of time needed to complete. There are only 24 hours in a day right? By the way I checked out your websites they are very nice with great articles! Fantastic job!

    Yes well like you say there are only so many hours in a day. If I had 48 hours in the day and the energy of my two year old... I could take over the world!

    I have a list of things I do each time I write a post and publish it. Checklists and I just stick to that. I think that if I do all the little important things even if I have to write a bit less that it will work out better for me and it seems to work that way.

    And congrats on your achievement so far, it gets easier just make it another 24 hours and you will find it a bit better going. It is damn hard but worth it all in the end.

    YAY so you are on day 3? It does get a little bit easier after day 3, at least it did for me. Then just when I thought "hey I got this" like around 2 weeks... well it felt like I was hit from behind. There were a few awful days and then everything got much better.

    It is uncomfortable for a few months, but nothing too bad. Now I am perfectly happy being a non-smoker.

    Well generally I like to apply things that I do. For instance, I never use tags on any articles, posts, or even just basic websites that utilize them. So if I don't use them I automatically think that no one else does either and is therefore old and obsolete. I think I have sort of a problem along those lines which I need to get away from.. lol

    However, if you feel that it has actually helped your website, then by all means use them! How useful do you find tags for Wordpress posts? For me, I don't know, maybe I will, maybe I won't, it all depends on the results afterwards.. haha.

    Everett, so you are stubborn like me?

    Seriously it has helped my websites a huge amount adding tags. I hope you try it out and then see it for yourself. I think it is something small to add that really makes a massive difference.

    I think in 2 or 3 cases my tag was on page 1 and my post on page 2. That is a huge difference!

    Using tags in WordPress while creating new posts is very helpful regarding SEO and SERP. I noted many times that Google crawlers are indexing tags in WordPress blogs much faster then any other links, so it get you more chance to perform better in Google search. Tags are also good internal links, keywords linked to your related posts etc. So adding relevant tags is very good and i would advice anyone to use them as much as possible, to get best results from blogging.

    I don't use them anymore. In past I used to make them visible on front page of the site. But these days not much using it. And instead just making use of the archive page where they can be visible. For some of the folks with blogs which are tag based. They can find them useful. And they may get traffic that way. But personally I don't see a reason to make use of the wordpress tags. And they don't seem to be adding the value to my posts. Also they don't have much value in case of the wordpress in that case either.
