Have you ever built your own computer?

I had a friend build me a PC once. It was awesome. I really enjoyed that. It was fun to come up with my list of specific needs and see him create it from scratch. He was a heavy gamer. It seems like most or all of my friends who've built their own PCs are also serious gamers. Interesting..

How many of you have built your own computers? Why did you choose to do that?

No, never and it will never happen. I just don't have the ability or the interest!

No, I could never have done such a complicated thing myself, I am no good. However my very first computer was built by one of my cousins. It was relatively good Have you ever built your own computer?

Yeah, I've done it several times. The most recent time was in January this year. I bought all the parts separately.

Here's the parts I bought:
  • Antec GX500 Black
  • Fractal Design Integra M 750W
  • HyperX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2133MHz Fury
  • MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Gaming
  • Samsung 850-Series EVO 250GB
  • MSI Z170A GAMING PRO
  • Deepcool Gamer Storm Maelstrom 240T
  • Intel Core i7 6700K 4.0 GHz 8MB

And a BenQ 24" XL2411Z monitor.

I paid 16.289,00 kr for all of it.. Which is about 1900 USD.

And yeah, I believe I fit in the category of a "serious gamer" Have you ever built your own computer?

Did that a long time ago. Used to search for weeks about what parts are compatible with each other and how expensive everything will be.
Now, I just prefer a pre-developed configuration. I also switched from desktops PC to laptops and I don't think I will switch back any time soon.

No, I have sadly never built my own computer. I had always wanted to, I remember I had all the parts I wanted to put into it but I was talked out of it by my father who said I should just get a laptop and that's what I did and I don't regret it.

I know of users who have the patience to tinker with computers even if they are not technically capable. Their common reason is that the computer can be studied and learned if you do it yourself. I don’t have the penchant to tinker with the computer so I just buy a ready-made computer, so to speak. Assembling your own computer with different brands for the parts may experience compatibility issues and I wouldn’t like that.
