Wordpress Released Its Own App Version

Yeah you heard it right, wordpress.com has released its own desktop and mobile app version, which allows you to manage your wordpress pages directly via your phone or desktop, without even opening your browser, and that is the best thing of this app because basically you have everything that you need there, this app is like a browser dedicated to wordpress.

I’m not using wordpress, but I’ve downloaded it just to try, and yeah it works really cool, also the speed is amazing because it’s not an heavy app.

Another thing that I’m loving from this app is that, the project is open source so anyone can contribute or modify it, now I’m going to play a little with my new toy. Wordpress Released Its Own App Version

Download it from here: https://apps.wordpress.com/

Oh that's awesome. But wait, I thought WP already had an app for managing / posting to your WP sites? I remember using it a long time ago. Looking at the Version History, it was released in February 2015. I did try it out and that but from what I remember, it wasn't half as near as easy and practical to use as it was using the actual desktop version. I can't remember for sure but it was something to do with the way I had to type to put in text into the post. It didn't have as many formatting options and tools that the desktop (web) version has. When I'm blogging I'm always using them, inserting diagrams, pictures, videos etc and I think I found the experience a bit clunky like and didn't get on with it. It looks like they've added some new features to it now though like external keyboard shortcuts and ability to add images to it easily. Something that you wasn't previously able to do without using Apples native image sharing feature.

I guess it's quite cool for people who want to blog-on-the-go. For when inspiration strikes! As for me, I like to have more control over the editor I'm using, use both hands and have more options so I know the post I'm creating will look good in desktop and mobile browsers.

But I may redownload it and give it another go just to see if it is as productive as they say it is now. Wordpress Released Its Own App Version

Oh I don't know if they are the same app, but I only know that this version has been released recently, and it's fully rewritten.

Currently I'm not using wordpress, but I'll need to create one just to play around with it, because I love open source softwares. Wordpress Released Its Own App Version

Eh I think it's still the same with minimal features. I downloaded it in the past week and wasn't worth keeping it around as I needed my features mainly.

Wait, as far as I can see this is only for wordpress.com. Is it also available for wordpress.org? Like is there a way that this app will connect to my host or something?

Yes it will work perfect as they are the same thing. The only difference between them is hosting, wordpress.com offer hosting, domain name and plugins. Wordpress.org does not offer hosting, but only the wp software and plugins.

Oh my gosh, well this is a no go for me. I mean I think it is way cool that Wordpress brought out their own app and that they are moving with the times by going mobile... BUT the big problem here is me.

I can't even get by managing my website on an ipad so how would I manage on my little phone? I can't get how so many people type on their phones without going crazy. I can't even send a text without stuffing it up, the touch screen drives me crazy and I am always pressing the wrong thing and the predictive text drives me insane. I would never be able to add decent content (or anything for that matter) with my mobile.

Cool they have an app now, but I will stick to my laptop thanks!
