Well the more sites you have the more sources of income you have. In addition to that I think that no matter what you do some websites will do really well and others will just flunk. It is not always easy to predict in my opinion.

So the more you have the more chance of success you have.

However like Mike has said the more websites you have the more work you will be needing to do. Creating content, online marketing and SEO takes time and hard work. The more websites you have the more work you must do. Of course you could hire people to do the work for you.

It all depends on what you want to do. I have 3 websites and I do most of the work myself. It seems like I can only really put 100% into one website at a time and I am currently trying to create more balance.

If the content on both websites is similar, I recommend you have just one big website. Google started loving big content that can help potential users with all his questions without the need of searching more for the answer or the information the user is looking for.

It all depends on the content and how SEO friendly you make a site to be. I think that several small sites could help you diversify, and that could be beneficial as you are going to target more users who might be interested in different things or subjects. If however you have one big site you are going to focus solely on it, and that tends to deliver better results as you do not have to fragment neither your time, nor your efforts. So I think I would opt for one big site.

I guess it will depend on the purpose of those sites. One big site is good for an owner whose intention is to take it easy. A big site is easier to manage than the multiple sites even if they are small. The advantage of the small sites is their tenacity to be competitive since it is in the small league while a big site has to be more competitive owing to the size that competitors are also big. For me, I would choose just the big site and focus all my attention to it.
