FB's Messenger - Lite version

Have you guys read about Facebook's Messenger Lite version? Facebook designed this version for older phones, those with low memory and really slow processors.

Mainly they are targeting emerging market that don't afford buying medium or high end smartphones. At first, the app will be available in Kenya, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela but, probably they will not just stop here.
The app will be able tu run the basic functions such as messaging, sending and receiving photos, stickers and links. The developers haven't said if they will develop this app for iOS at the moment. They will optimize it for Android, as Android runs on less powerful phones.

They haven't decide it exactly what functions will be left out but we shouldn't be surprised if we don't see features as Stories or Chatbox available.

In order to recognize the app more easily, the designers kept the same icon only reversed the colors.

If they will release the iOS version i really consider installing it because it will save my phone's battery. I don't need all the feature that are available in the app. I can survive with Basic features just fine.

I don't use Facebook's Messenger or even Facebook on my phone simply because I have a cheap phone and if I download too many apps to it then it barely even works.

I am perfectly happy with this though. Until this year I had an old Nokia, like really old. The kind that bounces when you drop it... but with that I couldn't even have Whatsapp.

I got a new phone because at my kids play school the class teaches have a Whatsapp group for each class and I was missing out big time on all the announcements so I decided to upgrade to a cheap Samsung Smartphone.

I'll be honest here I actually don't like being contactable by anyone and everyone all the time. Gone are the old days when you could just go awol for a while huh?

Well yeah, being able to be reached all the time it might not please everybody but we are living interesting things where everything is or it will be connected together. Like you said, you will lose a lot of thing just by not being part of groups or communities. It takes the fun o being out of reach but it's progress.

I remember that whenever I had a situation at school, i was given a letter to show it to my mother and make an appointment with the teacher and etc. Sometimes i was loosing it on purpose. Now, like you said, you are talking on Whatapp and the words are traveling at light speed.

Up's and Down's.

I am really glad that it opened new ways for you to make new deals and to get new orders and clients. It looks like it's a good thing that they addressed this app on all emerging countries and it's not just another app made only for marketing purposes. You are not the only one that told me that is working which is great. The purpose of the app is to run on all phones, low specifications or not and to connect people.

Wasn't this a thing a couple years ago? I remember installing the facebook messenger app but not the actual facebook app, which was kinda strange.
Anyways this new is great! I love lite simple things, even if I have a pretty good smartphone that can handle as many apps as I want, I may try this lite version, just to see how many functionalities dose it have and how actual lite the app is, because both the facebook and facebook Messanger app are eating tons of resources and I'm an optimization freak.

Well i don't know what "long time ago" you are talking. Oh yeah, maybe when they actually launched the separate messenger app. For sure you can use this app on your phone even though the amount of functionalities will probably be reduced so that will run on low specification phones. It is just a matter of time until the developers will realize that having 1000 useless features is not ok.
Indeed the app is eating a lot of resources and somehow i feel that they are doing it this way to force the customers to keep upgrading the phones over and over.

Yes I was just writing an article for a client about Messenger Lite. It is a very good move considering that there are many people who still use older versions of smartphones, as well as for those countries that are under serviced. There is no need to have all of the features such as the video. After all most people simply use Messenger for text messages only, and that is quite enough on Messenger Lite. It is a very good option when one is running out of space on his smartphone or tablet too. In fact I will probably be installing it on my tablet which always seems to have space problems.

Sure thing, being able to address your product to the remaking markets is a clever marketing strategy and Facebook did a great job by taking this chance.
Indeed video calling feature is not mandatory but it's a great add.

I think FB messenger lite is lot better version. And it can load the websites pretty quickly. I think for those with slow speed they should be thinking of using this app. I am using this app for last 1 year or so and that is working out for me. I am sure if we use this app on even higher speed, it'd be able to load things lot quicker using less bandwidth. So that's why i guess it's worth using as well.

I have installed Facebook Lite on my tablet and on my smart phone. It is quicker in response unlike the full version which takes a long time to display the web page. However, I don’t use the messenger for the private messages. Understandably, the functions are not complete and there is no button to block a sender of a private message which I usually do when I receive a forwarded item of fake news.

I've got both Messenger and Messenger Lite in my smartphone and the main difference I see is that Messenger Lite is faster to load and send messages from. It's more efficient if you ask me.
