How many keywords are enough? Can you literally rank unlimited ones?

Freelancers and SEO experts,
It's common to see SEO experts offer services where they need 1-10 different keywords from you. Sometimes even 15 keywords.

I wonder if it's actually possible to rank unlimited keywords?

I mean, more ranked keywords should also result in more traffic, right? - So how about using 5,000 keywords instead of 15? - Would that be possible?

I obviously understand that you should rank keywords in your niche etc. but in reality, would it be possible to rank unlimited keywords if you had the money for it or the time to do it yourself? - And, would it be beneficial?

It will never in anyway be beneficial to rank unlimited keywords, infact if there is any SEO software that can handle that. There are some websites that have seriously dominated some keywords and to defeat such sites to rank high in google rankings will be almost impossible. it is strongly advisable to go for keywords that are moderately competitive and do all the seo processes to rank your site high on SERP rankings based on those keywords. I run an affiliate site and i used 2 moderately competitive keywords and i am seriously achieving good results from it.

Andre are you talking about ranking unlimited keywords on your website or an SEO service for unlimited keywords?

It is all about how much time and/ or money you have to invest in your business really. I suppose that you can rank your website for unlimited keywords - each time you create new content you rank for new keywords, the more content you have the more keywords you have.

Regarding SEO services well each service has to work with usually one URL and a set of keywords that go with that URL. It wouldn't be possible to create one service that ranks for unlimited keywords no.

I do think you can diversify keywords on your website, sure but it will take time and effort to do that.

I was talking about ranking unlimited keywords on your website. Thank you for the clarification Lynne, I appreciate it. Would that also be the reason for most SEO experts to provide SEO services for anything between 1 and 15 keywords?

Ranking for an unlimited number of keywords, it doesn't really me any sense. Are you referring to one page in particular or multiple pages on the same domain ranking for multiple keywords?

If we are talking about just one page, then no, you can't rank for an unlimited number of keywords, at some point, your content will limit your ranking ability, there is a finite number of keywords (that people search for) you ca rank for in one single page.

If we are talking about a whole domain, then yes, in theory you can rank for a lot of keywords with multiple pages, take SC for example, with enough articles, topics, backlinks and discussions, in theory it can rank for A LOT of keywords.

I am now getting confused with keywords because from what I understand before, the keyword is the word that you tag your web page with and it should be related to the niche. Now it seems that keyword analysis is getting to be a popular thing among webmasters that I have been seeing many discussions about it. Anyway, I am still in the learning stage so I guess I have no right to contribute something.
