Audio Books. - One of the best products you can create?

We live in a time where it's almost natural for us all to write and sell ebooks, guides and reports. Hundreds of people are doing it everyday and even though just a handful of people succeed, there's always new authors trying their luck.

That being said, what I don't see as much, is Audio books.

Audio books are probably the easiest thing to do, yet, there's so many people who never thinks about this possibility. - And why is it the easiest thing to do?

Compared to ebooks, you don't have to write and think about proper grammar. Which is a big deal when it comes to foreign authors as myself. - So I'll save myself tons of hours by ignoring that part.

And in comparison to videos, you don't have to create them, and for a non-experienced person it's almost impossible to create a good video.

Do I need to state more reasons? - I think not.

When you've made your audio book, and if that goes well, in terms of sales. Then you could write your ebook and offer a package deal instead. - That's literally a 2 in 1 deal and if everything works out well, you'll be able to provide videos too as a third option.. Which would make your "tiny product" become a huge deal for most potential buyers.

With all that being said.. It's not as easy to make audio books as it might sound.. But with a little bit of training, the possibilities are endless.

Andre I was actually thinking of creating audiobooks to go hand in hand with the ebooks I am writing and of course I have also done some Youtube videos so it would be a natural sort of progression for me to try my hand at audiobooks.

I just wonder what sort of equipment I would need to get that done, do you have any advice or suggestions?

Hey Lynne,
I do think you should create and sell audio books along with your ebooks. They deserve it and so do you!

When it comes to equipment there's literally hundreds of things you could use. The most important thing, no matter what kind of microphone you're using, is to have an isolated room. At least a room which is totally quiet during the time when you record. There's nothing more annoying than listening to an audiobook and suddenly hear steps or background noise.

I've heard fantastic things about Blue Yeti, but it's expensive.

That being said, there's probably a handful of different microphones you could use, the important thing is the quality of the sound.

I think that audio books do have an advantage over ebooks and written content especially when considering the time it takes to proofread them, the importance that needs to be placed on proper grammar and sentence structure and flow, and obviously the time involved to write/type them. However for an audio book to be really good you probably need to write it first, so as to read it while you record it. Otherwise you are prone to errors. Besides you need to make sure that the sound quality is good, and that your voice is pleasant. These have a big impact on the quality of the audiobook.

I actually listen to the first two volumes of George RR Martin, A Song of Ice and Fire as audio books. If you have a nice voice with good intonation and perfect pronunciation you should definitely do this. Although I don't know how well you are going to be paid, probably no that much since there are a lot of people out there doing these things for free.

As for ebooks in form of audio tutorials I think we should take a step forwarder and creating video content, audio isn't enough anymore, even audio podcasts have moved to video.

That's a good idea, selling ebooks with free audio book version. I need time to think about that, it may really increase the sale of ebooks if I package the two together.
