Why Facebook Search will become a problem for Google

I know I mentioned this in the past with my " Three new features on Facebook you need to learn about" and I got mixed remarks so I'll gonna try explaining thing further here.
I believe Facebook has the opportunity to win the "internet wars" and become a Google challenger in terms of search and results in the next few years.

This year in July Zuckerberg said that Facebook gets around 2 billion searches on his social media network every day and it's only increasing!

Why Facebook Search will become a problem for Google

So why would Facebook lose such a huge opportunity by not putting that search feature to work as any normal company would?
Well it plans to do just that. Here is what Mark had to say this year in June:

“Over a five year period, some of the newer initiatives that we’re working on I think will start to not only become very large communities in their own right – and some already are – but some of these new initiatives will also start to contribute meaningfully to our overall business, so I’m thinking about new apps that we’re working on like Messenger and Whatsapp, which, I think you could say are pretty meaningful communities at this point, with Whatsapp more than a billion people and Messenger is around 900 million people, but we’re really just getting started working on the business side of those. We think video is going to be a huge opportunity, same thing with search, and Instagram is really just starting to grow meaningfully as a business as well.”

Facebook already haves this: https://www.facebook.com/services/ - it enables you to find business around your area or desired location. They also launched the Marketplace which in time will put a lot of websites that deal with buy/sell/hire/trade stuff out of business.

All of this stuff is aimed at consolidating its power over anything online but also because Facebook pretty much reached its full potential in terms of user growth (check http://www.recode.net/2016/7/27/12305002/facebook-ad-load-q2-earnings) there is only so much people in the world, they need to expand and I believe they'll go straight for the big cake next.

A lot of people don't leave Facebook much, they use it for everything, one of my wife's friends is actually using Facebook search to find small clothing brands and she just messages them to make an order, it's crazy!

Once Facebook develops a real search engine there will be no reason for a lot of people to leave the network, it will be like a network inside a network, it absolutely boggles my mind when I think about it but this is where we are heading I believe.

Facebook has become a marketing giant and for something that started out as a college social media site im very impressed. This is how you build a company and continue to grow it even when others have plateau in the past Facebook continues to thrive. Most of the reason for this is because they are branching off into different things. They now have a Facebook market place where you can buy and sell things to people in your area. Facebook videos have become very popular along with Live streaming. Now the searches the Social media Giant just cant stop growing! Lynne your on point with the term that will be used because people are already saying "Facebook Me" meaning message me on Facebook. This does not really matter to me as long as whatever happens its just as accurate and good as Google. They have the best search engine so far and it would take alot to compete with them.

Jkeys2 I am sure Facebook will turn out to be as accurate as Google. I mean they should know that they really need to up the game in terms on online search if they want to be a serious competitor for Google searches.

If they are not up to scratch with Facebook search I am sure that people's interests will die out quite quickly. I know that if I use something a few times and it is not up to standard I am hesitant to keep trying and my first impression will last... so when they come out with it, it had better be really good!

I am hoping Facebook gives Google a run for it's money. Google has been dominating the internet for far too long. It is about time someone else comes along and takes them down, as it were. I would love to see Facebook, well actually no, I would not like to see Facebook overtaking Google. In fact, I would like to see a little startup other than Facebook take over the searches. I am really sick of hearing about how Facebook is taking over everything. They need to stop putting their noses in the internet world unrelated to social networking, and stick to being a social network, with News Feed, and Facebook Games.

Is anyone else tired of Facebook as much as I am? I am waiting for another website to overthrow Facebook honestly, and I am hoping it comes soon.

I think this is huge for Facebook and for online marketing. Something that I have noticed over the years of using Facebook for marketing my business... people like to stay on Facebook, its almost like their base.

I believe that a lot of people sit on Facebook all day. They manage their business and they socialize and they buy things, without ever having to leave Facebook.

For about the first year of my online business I couldn't figure out how to work my own website ... yes I know, bad huh? Anyway I managed to figure out how to work a Facebook page much quicker than I could figure out how to use my website and my first online sales were all conducted through Facebook.

There are so many people that don't have a website and market purely through Facebook very successfully.

I am so interested to see how Facebook search will compare to Google search... in 5 years time will we be saying "Facebook It" instead of "Google It?

I don't think we will, and I hope we never have to do it. I don't like Facebook so I'd have to come up with something else if people started to say "Facebook it" instead of "google it" Why Facebook Search will become a problem for Google

You do have a good point there Andre but there are so many devoted Facebook users that I do think they will give Google a big time run for their money. Either way it will be fun to watch if Google has to up their game LOL

My viewpoint on Facebook is just a simple social media that is big enough to be considered a giant in the industry not only in social media but in the entire internet. However, with that search function, it may be a hanging sword on the head of Google and other search engines. We all know that Facebook has the biggest audience to speak of and they can cultivate that big audience for purposes of fortifying their feature particularly that search function. In that regard, I think Google should be scared.
