Hey content writers and freelancers!

Lately I've been thinking about content writing related services and I've seen many people who offers article writing services for as low as $0,01 per word all the way up to literally $5 per word or something. (Perhaps not that much, but seriously A LOT).

And as I am active in multiple internet marketing forums and I have direct contact with multiple freelancers and content writers on a daily basis, I'm curious to know how people are reasoning when they come up with their prices.

Mostly, I can see people who offers 300-500 word articles for a certain price for instance. But when I'm talking with experienced writers, most of them claims to do the opposite. They don't charge for articles like that at all. And they would never charge per word either.

What they do, is to sell a launch-ready article, in whatever niche they're writing about, for a fixed price. They agree on $50 for instance, and they write until the article is ready. No matter if it contains 300 words or 50,000 words.

And honestly speaking, that sounds great indeed. Especially if you want articles in a certain niche, but how do these people get orders? - I mean, they can't just state "I will write an article in your niche" for $XX. - And tell people that they will write it until it's ready? - It seems a bit odd to me.

That's why I wanted to hear your opinions.

Let's say you'll get hired to write 5,000-10,000 words per day. In various niches. About different things. In one or basically 50 different articles or posts.

- How much would you charge for something like that?
- And how would you come up with the price?

I think if a content writer is seriously good and can provide articles that:
  • Covers the topic at hand entirely
  • Are written for high SEO juice
  • Are engaging and highly shareable
  • Converts

Well then that person can literally charge whatever they want since they are providing what every website owner wants right?

I charge people not by word or article when they want content writing done. I charge what my time is worth to me if I am not writing for my websites If you got hired to write an average of 5,000-10,000 words per day..

I get a few people asking me to write content for them and I bill them according to the value of my time taken away from my business.

That's a super awesome point Lynne, but how do you come up with the real value? - How do you come up with the amount of money your own time is worth? - I mean, my time could be worth literally nothing and a few hundreds.. It all depends on how I calculate things and what I compare it with.

Andre I just give them a huge figure and usually they run for it If you got hired to write an average of 5,000-10,000 words per day.. Put it this way, when I publish a guest post on my own website I charge $5 and if they want me to write the content for them I charge $35... that is for content on my own website LOL.

Now I just say $60 for a 1000 word article. Most people leave it and that is fine. I really want to focus on my own websites now and not on creating content for other people If you got hired to write an average of 5,000-10,000 words per day..

I am finding it so much more satisfying writing for myself.

It depends on how much money is being offered to me. If I get paid $100 per day to 5000 words then of course I would do it. But the problem is, is that most people looking for blog posts, or articles for other website content are not going to pay a lot for it. They will pay as little as possible. Sometimes if you pay too little then you risk getting an article that was literally copied word for word from a different website. This is why you should try to find a good writer that uses original content, and doesn't copy, or use other tools to make an article 'unique'. Could you imagine if someone were to steal your own content? That wouldn't be so much fun.

Now, if I was paid a little to write 10,000 words a day then no I would not do it. However, also this depends on how passionate i am about whatever the platform is, or niche I am writing in. So if I were say write 5000 words for around $80 then yes I may do it, why not?

Well 5000-10000 words per day is not an easy feat. It depends a great deal on whether these are divided up into separate articles, and also on the niche. If you need to do a lot of research before you even start to write, then the price is going to increase. However if it is something regular, such as you make an agreement with someone that you are going to write that amount of words/articles every single day, then you are basically devoting the whole day to that client, and he would need to pay you your daily rate. It almost becomes like a wage.

It almost becomes like a wage.

I like the expression of a living wage. Meaning that you can still live on the wage, and won't need assistance from a government entity. Basically a minimum wage means you will probably receive government assistance because you are not making enough money to survive..

If I was writing 10000 words per day, I would love to be paid at least $200, and that really depends on the niche, and platform I was writing for.

From my experience it is difficult to find someone who is willing to pay you $200. I get clients who are willing to pay $14 for a 1000word article, but there are also several others who feel it is a bit expensive.

Yeah, to earn that much money from writing articles is entirely a hard task. As I said in an earlier reply, people expect so much for such little pay, and sometimes freelancers have no choice but to take on the work because they need the money. If you got hired to write an average of 5,000-10,000 words per day..

It is hard times we live in, and i tend to believe they are getting harder.. especially if you live in America..

Well yeah $200 for a 1000 word article would be amazing! However I am not sure that a lot of people manage to get customers that are willing to pay that.

I get paid about that for writing product reviews and promotional posts on my own website.

I guess most of the time I thought of price per 500 words article!

At first glance, I would hastily decline the offer. Churning out an article of 5,000 words per day is like making me a word factory. I can write 500 words in one day and maybe up to 1,000 words. I have to admit that it is hard labor for me to come up with 5,000 words in one day. And if I would persist then more likely my article would be of low quality and for sure a writer's block will hit me often. Maybe I could settle for 5,000 to 10,000 words but for once a week only. That's the most I can do to write an article that long with quality.

I don't think I can write 5000 words in a day even though I am primarily a writer. The most number of words that I can churn in a day is around 2500. It takes me 6-7 hours to do 2500 words. I cannot sit all day long writing. Writing is a creative work and you need motivation. If you are sitting and writing continuously, you will not deliever a good work. The best writing project I have ever received was 3500 word blog post. I had 20 days to complete this work.

Well, for me I will first look at the market price and my competition price and take the average of the two to determine if it goes down well with me.Stringing 5000-10000 word daily is no mean job,a lot of brain cracking and racking couple with time consumption and other variables then one should be well paid to turn in a good job at the end of the day.
