What do you feel makes a successful forum?

Having a successful forum takes a lot of time and patience. I have come across forums where the owners feel like if they set it up, post a few times and then leave it, it will become successful over night. Unfortunately that is not the case and it takes a lot more work than that.

I feel that to have a successful forum you first need to have an idea and passion, you need to want to see your forum be successful. Once you have an idea and you have the passion it's time to move onto ensuring you have new content daily, interacting with your members as well is always good as they feel welcome and like they belong. With the fresh new content and the activity it's time to advertise whether it be on top sites, forum directories or through links in signatures on other forums it's all exposure and will help to get your forum out there.

Its really not so easy to get active member in a new community forum. You will not be able to make a forum successful in rush. You will need to have patient. Need to work daily for your forum. if you don't have time then you can hire other people to manage your community forum. For me I always try my best to add useful and attractive topics/post regularly. I believe that new and unique content always attract people to take part in the community. Because nobody like empty or inactive forum. We can can make contests and can offer attractive prizes for forum member and this will encourage forum member to take part in the discussions regularly.

When the community keeps on growing then that is one indication that the forum is a success. But, of course, the growth should be in tangible numbers like a hundred new member in a week. And the proof of the pudding is in the eating which means the posts should also be growing regularly. For a real gauge of success is a forum that earns more than the expense. If the forum does not profit then no matter how many new members you have and how many posts you have, those are nothing since profit is the ultimate goal of a forum.

What do you call success? To me the success of a forum is having daily posters and new content ever day. I don't need 100 new members a day to be happy. Because trust me on this, once you get so many members hosting is going to go from cheap, $5~$9.99 to expensive $49.99 to extremely expensive $300 to better rob a bank $1,000's.

And making money off a forum is not as easy as some people want you to believe. Most people run adblocker these days and ads are not a reliable income. And hardly anyone will be willing to donate, so you're going to be left holding the bag on the hosting.

Forums success depends mostly on the content, nobody needs an empty forum where it mostly filled with ads without appropriate contents to retain readers or users or make them return.Forums owners should come up with very engaging topics that users can connect with, learn from and make useful contributions.
