What the limitations of email marketing ? or in other words what are the shortcomings of it ?

1. emailing software: the price, features would affect the cost
2. The anti-spam feature in customer emails : unless it is highly targeted, you might end up your msges in spam
3. content and the value addition
4. proper categorization of the customers/segmentation

To be frank about email marketing, I am not comfortable with it because it is not as effective as before. I find the social media more dependable when promoting something than using email marketing because most emails that I receive now which are obviously a marketing technique always find their way in the spam folder. Most users are allergic to emails in the spam folder because it is already judged as spam.
