Stumbleupon is still one of the best traffic generators for some of my sites. It's very easy to use too. All you do is sign up and you're good to go. No heavy profile customisation is required, no need to post comments and such. You just go straight away sharing your links, up voting or down voting different types of content.

What Stumbleupon likes you too do is just to be active. Just keep on clicking the "stumble" button to view more shared content from users and up vote or down vote. Your content will get more views the more your active.

Take note though that interesting or funny articles and pages are the ones that get a lot of views and up votes from Stumbleupon. I've received thousands of views from this website. You should try it out ASAP.

I have used StumbleUpon in the past and I find it to be a really cool tool to get people to hit your site. I have to agree with you, it's always best to make sure you submit your site to the correct topic otherwise as you said you will have people who have no interest in your site stumble across your site and they are not very likely to like your site. I have had a huge influx in traffic after usin StumbleUpon and I would always use it time and time again with any other site.

I like StumbleUpon but I have never really had much success using it to increase traffic to my articles. I am sure I pick the right topic and use the right tags. As for circulating it to my friends, in that area, I fell short. But I felt that I made up for that by sharing it via Facebook because my friends who follow me on StumbleUpon are also on Facebook. In all, I couldn't see any noticeable results in traffic. But I still like StumbleUpon and do use it every now and then. If not to share something, then to search for something. I really can't be that active on StumbleUpon because most of my time is devoted to all the other major social media networks.

To be honest I never found much of the value out of the stumbleupon traffic. No idea what was the reason behind that it seems like the traffic is low. And just not worth pushing much ahead with. I guess that reflects for each one of us. And it may not remain consistent for all of us.

Thanks for the tip. I've vaguely heard about stumble upon but its not that popular. Is it worth it investing our time trying to grow a following on it? What is it good for. Is it visual like Instagram and Pinterest or is it text based like twitter and to an extent Facebook. What niches is it good for. Isn't it better to stick to your current social media platform and grow your following from there? The Kardashians for example have millions of followers on Instagram, I'll bet you won't find them on stumble upon. In my opinion its better to stick to one or two platforms, grow your following and improve your content.

Thanks for sharing this information about StumbleUpon but I guess I have to give it more time so I can study the whole mechanics. It is not easy to use a software for obtaining traffic much more when you are using a site that is a sort of traffic exchange. My take on getting traffic from search engines is still what I have learned from this site which is the SEO method that we can apply to our site.
