If you're selling a physical product or some sort of food or beverage, you can usually give it away to potential customers. This will not only spread the word about your business but it will increase your rankings through backlinking and bring in additional sales.

If you're selling a food or beverage then you'll want to give this away to everyone that wants it. I know I still have pens from 5 to 7 years ago when I went to a big marketing conference lol.

Thanks for your excellent enumeration on how to optimise sales which are the essence of any business. I would like to add that the marketing mix which includes the cost of production and the quality of the product matter a lot without which everything would become an uphill task. Again, there is another concept gaining currency, that of negative advertising. For instance if you wish your detergent to excel in sales, you advertise with the tagline, dirt is good.

I will have to disagree with giving away product. Once I offered my book for free on Amazon. I was expecting good reviews by giving the book for free. Over a hundred copies of my books were downloaded in three days, it was even listed in the top 20 in its category, however, I did not get a single review. If people get it for free they won't use it and they will not remember you.

I think small business require a lot of efforts. Landing that first client is not that easy and you should be working more on the recurring clients too. So but it also needs to be said that you should constantly check for the changes in the business. That being said, you have to understand not all startups need to do those things. It takes time to even manage promotion properly.

Giving away sample products is very common in supermarkets here. It seems that every time I go to the supermarket, there were always plenty of promo girls who are giving away free samples of their product, from food items like instant noodles to household items like detergent. Again, the adage is true that the proof of the pudding is in the eating so those giveaway samples will prove to the potential customers that their product is good.
