Best Platform for Web Development

These days, when there are a lot of web development platforms available to a web developer, it can be a daunting task to choose which tool is appropriate for a project. It can even be quite confusing to consider which technology is used for which purpose when there are tools that represent themselves as an all-in-one solution, while other tools are commonly used for purposes not originally intended for it. Available to a developer are the traditional third-generation and fourth generation programming languages, there's also the full stack web development platform requiring knowledge in a variety of technologies, and there's also the Web 2.0 platforms where a familiarity with a few programming and markup languages is helpful but not required. With all these options available to a web developer, what do you think is the best platform to learn, in terms of cost-effectiveness, including but not limited to such factors as the amount of time required to become productive, as well as the availability of projects and projected revenue from such projects.

I personally use WordPress so that's the platform that I'm going to recommend. What's good about WordPress is that it's easy enough to be understood by beginners but has a lot of options and could be tweaked in various ways to satisfy more advanced users.

Wordpress also has a lot of Plugins that can be used to improve your website, from SEO tools to automatic ad placement plugins, it's got it all. You can even create a social media site or forum with Wordpress alone just by using certain plugins. If you haven't decided on what to use, go with WordPress. You won't be disappointed.

I also agree and believe that Wordpress is the best option with regard to website development. Wordpress is an ideal CMS for programmers and even for people who do not know how to program.

If you're looking for an easy way to make good blogs, you may want to consider trying out Wordpress as others have already stated. Otherwise, you could also try learning HTML5 and CSS3. They can both make static websites and the best part of it is that you can get the design you want, exactly the way you want it as long as you know how to do it.

Well, I think the fact that we have so many available options that are all pretty good quality is incredible. Imagine, if you'd be stuck with only one web dev platform? It would suck. Since you have choices, you can test out some and then make your decision. Some people will prefer WordPress, others will prefer PHP and so on. It depends on your own taste and your knowledge.

The most popular are probably:
- WordPress
- PHP,
- Wix,
- Webydo,
- WebsiteBuilder,
- and others.

They have different features and allow a different amount of creativity. In certain platforms, you aren't completely free when it comes to developing the website.

WordPress seems to be solving most of the website related needs. So you don't have to choose to do the custom web design from the start. You can see that there are lot of plugins and themes that makes sense. I think there are also other CMS. Such as joomla, drupal, ghost etc. It depends on what you want out of them. Some are good enough for quick execution part.

You can see most of the popular WordPress framework are working on a lot lower cost than any other language. You may notice that some of the plugins on WordPress like say WooCommerce, Ninjaforms and others are making a lot of money for people. That being said, such web based platforms are not easy to setup these days. I have managed to make a lot out of web development. I would personally start low and build on that.

Thank you all for your answers. Seeing that everyone on here recommended Wordpress, it seems that it is the way to go and that the use of traditional third generation and fourth generation programming tools are on the wane. One advantage of Wordpress that I see is that it allows the developer to rapidly develop and focus on the functionality of a website, without getting bogged down by the technical details.

There are different web platforms that are available today. Web platforms are also called Content Management System or CMS. Even with zero knowledge in web programming, you can develop your own website. CMS doesn't require knowledge in web programming. All you need to do is set up the website and provide the contents. Every CMS has its own intended use. If it is for blogging, you can use wordpress or joomla. If it is for creating online classes or other educational purposes, moodle is the most appropriate. Some use drupal for e-commerce website. Wordpress and Joomla could be used also for e-commerce website. You just need to install plugins to transform it to an online store that can view products and accepts orders.

But for mainly blogging only, I would prepare wordpress.

It looks like the majority is opting for Wordpress because of the convenience of the design that is already pre-loaded. All you need to do is to install the software and choose a theme. That’s how easy it looks although I am not betting on the simplicity when the user has no technical knowledge of things. I remember the olden days when the issue is about web development, it is always Dreamweaver that would pop up.
