What is your blogging niche?

I have a blog on gardening. Gardening is my passion. But I also have other interests. I cannot possibly mix up and post blogs on other subjects under the gardening blog. The only way available to me is to start another blog but the main blog I suppose would be gardening.

Is there a way I can change this and have a general category instead?

Gardening blog can stay OK. You do not need to insert another category on your gardening blog. There are huge and huge web 2.0 free blog creation facilities are available. Like www.blogspot.com or www.wordpress.com or www.tumblr.com. You can create unlimited blogs or as much blog as you need and to do blogging with web 2.0 platform and with sub domain will give you huge facilities. Hope these blogs will make you happy.

Thanks
Centurion

So I independently go about creating blogs on subjects of my interest. I am aware of these two places where I can do it but was wondering each time I try to do it whether because of my email address they will take me to the garden blog instead.
Thanks for your suggestion. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hey there! My mom LOVES gardens and she always read that kind of blogs. If that is your passion and that's what you love to write about... keep doing it! My blogging area is lifestyle. I also love posting about health, book reviews and fashion! Fashion is one of my biggest passions too!

You were smart and gave a general heading where there is so much you can pack. I will have to start a new blog altogether and may be give a general heading and bring gardening under it along with the other subjects of my passion.
Your mother must be having a blog too.

I have a degree in Creative Writing, and so I mainly blog about that. I have an online journal where I publish poets and prose-poets--some flash fiction as well. I also have a blog where I just sort of "diary" creatively, and the discussions there are different every day, of course, based upon my [hopefully not totally boring] life in general. I am interested, however, in a myriad of subjects, so I do frequent all sorts of blogs with varying subject matters, and I tend to be inspired by those on a regular basis. Using the blog to develop my "voice" as a writer is key, and so I use it as a challenge every day to keep my mind sharp ad my ideas flowing, if that makes sense.

You guys have played safe in that you can pack your blogs with whatever you want to say unlike me where the name of my blog is gardening. I will now have to start another blog giving it a general title.
Under creative writing you can pack so much not just poetry. Had you gave it the name 'poetry' you too would issues of the type I am having just now

My main area of vlogging really depends as I have a lot of niches. Sometimes, it's about heavy metal music, specifically the Nu Metal genre. Other times I do fitness blogs in which I talk about how I lose weight and what my methods are. I do a lot more than just those two, but the main key element that I try to provide is humor.

Do you post youtube links or is there a provision there to embed. Some sites do not let us embed our own files unless we first upload them in youtube and then insert that link.
I have a passion for photography and have scores of video clips birds, gardening and our pets.

I don't currently have a blog because I don't have enough time to dedicate to it. However, in the past, I used to blog a lot about technology and different things related to the internet.

If you want to branch out of gardening, you could just do it step by step? Or maybe set up another more general blog then redirect your gardening blog users to the other one as well. Make some announcement and include a link (can be near the top or on the side of the page) - many readers will click and check it out.

I am thinking of going to yet another site like wordpress and start a fresh and then transfer the garden blog there under a new heading. I will give my main blog a name that will embrace all the topics I would be interested in writing.

This indeed is a tall order and hopefully I should be able to face it.

I would recommend you setup another blog around your are interest. But if you want, you can set up a general blog. There is nothing wrong with having a general blog but category everything for easy navigation.

From what I see, blogs have a theme and it's not a good idea to dilute the theme. My planned blog is about my pets. I have actually written some articles for another blog on pets. I can't imagine to include another topic in that blog of my friend because it will ruin the theme. The best you can do is to create another blog for the subject matter you have in mind. And then you can include the backlinks for both blogs so if a reader is in your gardening blog then he can click the link to your other blog or blogs.

Reading through responses here and now you, I think that is what I should be doing. Linking would be a great idea. I have so much to talk about as I have so many interest and also have enough matter by way of photos and video clips to put them there.

For me I am into tech, small business, design, and freelancing. I also write on some of the graphics design based projects. I find that definitely useful. I guess like me many other people find this sort of blogging topics easy to write into. It all comes down to how you work with it though.Gardening and the outdoor niches are definitely useful. I guess we just have to work with what we know.

A technical blog will have more viewers as they learn from there. As you say bloggers must enjoy what they are posting on and that is the only benefit I have creating my blog.
I do have topics that can interest viewers but I have to make time for them It is the question of setting the ball rolling. Once that is done rest will be easy.

I say publish a different blog for a different hobby. You do not want your content unorganized as that may confuse users away. But, if you really want to put it on one site, I suggest you rename the site to a general named site because if it is named as a gardening site, users may wonder why are there other content on the site that is totally unrelated to gardening.

When I started writing I was as they say still wet behind my ears. Thanks for all the bombarding I got here (lol) I am seriously planning on putting law and order in my writing world. I have some idea and that should work.

You may laugh when you realize that you're taking advice for your gardening blog from a person who can't even grow a potato ( What is your blogging niche? ), but when I had a WordPress blog, there was a feature that allowed you to connect your Tumblr blog to your WordPress blog. Each time you published a post via WordPress, your Tumblr blog would automatically update as well.

There was no such feature with Blogspot. However if you use a automated posting service like IFTTT you can create a “recipe” that will do the same thing, i.e. automatically update your Tumblr each time you post via Blogspot.

What am I saying? I'm saying that's a two-fer.

You're actually publishing two blogs simultaneously. Your main blog and a related microblog. This will enhance your online presence. You can keep your Tumblr niche-related, like for gardening OR you can broaden your microblog by giving it a more general title like for a home and garden website. Because gardening is only one thing people use to beautify or decorate their homes, living spaces and work place. Right? Via your Tumblr blog you can mix in shares from other blogs about home decorating ideas.

Are you following my thought process?

Hope I've given you some food for thought. What is your blogging niche?

Although you claim you do not know much of gardening you have answered what I wanted to know. I have to get back to tumblr and see if my account is still there but your idea seems viable. Thanks for that detailed explanation

My main blog at blogger dot com is a recipe blog where I upload all my recipes that I had tested and cooked online. Besides that I also add in another category where I put it as "Misc" and "About Me" where I can post short summary of my other posts at Hubpages, Literacybase related to baking recipes and health matters too. You don't have to open another blog. Just separate the categories and make them neat will do.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Your main blog seems to be recipes and there under Misc you are adding some other material and that seems logical to me. I have a whole of topics on which I plant to write and for that I assume I will have to do something with my main blog.

I don't have a particular mean area in blogging. I can blog about anything that I can relate actually. Except for religion and politics which are sensitive topics that can sometimes elicit negative reactions on what you say.
Gardening is good too because my mother has a very nice garden and she has a good touch on a plant. So, anything I can read from there I will share it with her since she isn't into computers and blogging sites. She doesn't even have an FB account.

Actually I meant to say 'main' Here there is no provision to correcting errors (lol) Most however have understood that I meant main and not mean.
Have you worked on any blog. It is so satisfying even though your blog may not be read by many. If you want to earn then you should share it with as many sites as possible.

I used to have a work at home blog, but now mine is mainly focused on cats, especially mine. I try to add entries often, but since blogger is slow for me, it is hard for me to get motivated to do the posts. I would like to be posting more actually.

My main blog is about Bonsai, so not too far off from your interest in gardening. I've tried venturing into other things though and have started blogs about my online earning attempts and photography, but I don't really put much effort into those. In fact I totally lost focus on the photography one and tried to incorporate other things, but haven't done anything there for months. I really want to do a serious blog on something in a more popular niche than bonsai, but I'd never combine the two because I feel that would just drive my readers away.

I think you'd be better off starting a second blog and keeping gardening separate. As others have said, you can link between the two to try to build up your audience.

You should keep your blog just like it is, and also if gardening is like a passion for you, obviously you have to stay posting important and useful information for others. In my case, don't have a blog right now (super busy with my job), but I would love to have a travel and food blog. Visiting abroad, learning new languages, checking out distant places, experiencing new cultures, that is a real true passion for me. Seriously I would never get tired of meeting around.

I really like fashion, make up and trying different hairstyles so I basically blog about the new trends in town but I could blog about the most recent movie I have seen, a restaurant I really liked and so on. I live in a very small town and people are always looking for new things to do and to read. I think you have it right with gardening if that's your passion, you can't make it wrong if you really love what your doing. keep on!

Well, I'm currently trying out a blogging niche that I published, then took down for a moment. Basically, it's freelance writing advice mixed with reviews on websites and content exchange hubs that pay you to post. Along with articles regarding the overall direction, blogging is going in general. To be honest, it was hard for me to think of a niche. After some time, I decided to give this a try because it gave an honest opinion on my personal experiences with earning an income from blogging and freelance content writing altogether. From writing for myself to owning an actual blog. These thoughts can be put into articles and reviews worth reading. As far as monetizing I'm doing basic Adsense, which, to be honest, isn't really paying anything. But the affiliate clicks and conversions from the websites I feature are doing well in doubling my earnings from those sites. So it's somewhat profitable I guess. Nonetheless, I'm going to continue this journey because I have seen some returns.

My blog is a personal finance blog and it can cover a lot of topics related to handing money such as earning, saving, and investing money. I hope to feature online earning sites that I'm currently using and those that I'm trying to test. It will also feature relevant local laws and taxation regulations that can have impact on people's finances and on business owner's business decisions. The blog is for local audience and one can tell this by the domain name.

My blog is kind of a general one. It consists of articles such as gaming, lifestyle and health. It's been a while though since I last updated it. Didn't really have the time to add more articles anymore to it but still hoping to add more in the future.

I think blogging niche is what you are writing about and it is your hobby.
I saw more people earned more money when doing blogging niche for your site. Anyway, it is one of ways that generating good money for bloggers nowadays.

Gardening is a good niche and since it is your hobby, and you knows about it very well, I think you'll be fine with it. If you are planning to write content that is not related to gardening, it would be better if you create that in a new blog site. Blogs must have a single focused niche. It affects the retention of your readers.

I'm on digital products and internet marketing so I create my contents for my blog that are related only for those niche.

I am urging my husband to create a blog for his gardening because he loves gardening and he is good at it. His friends in social media are amazed by his posts because he usually posts his new plants and his harvests. Sometimes he posts about the caring of a particular plant like the strawberry or the dragon fruit. His specialty in gardening are the edibles like vegetables and fruits.

Your husband could make money from his blog. Maybe not actually from blogging but by promoting products that are related to gardening. If he is not doing it yet, maybe he would consider trying an affiliate marketing.
