I heard that Google doesn't link reciprocal backlinking? Is that true?

If, on the other hand, you just happen to link to someone that already links to you -- due to having websites on related subjects and finding each others content a complimentary resource and/or wanting to recommend it -- that should not create a problem. So long as these links have a purpose on the page and do not occur at the same time they are unlikely to get flagged, What Google does not like is what is called a "link scheme". This is any agreement to provide links that is not organic and based on content. So it might be automated using a widget, an agreement made between two people purely for pagerank benefits, or a regular link "party". Google is increasingly learning how to detect these non-organic reciprocal links.
