4 free marketing methods a startup can use to get noticed

In the beginning, you might think it's expensive to do marketing for your startup, but it doesn't have to be.  You can use a few little tricks, that might not actually be tricks in your opinion, in order to boost your sales through free marketing tactics.  There are plenty of companies out there that use free marketing tactics all day long, even though they're multi-million dollar corporations, and they're raking in the dough because of it.

A few ways to do this is to bring on affiliate marketers, use strategic content marketing, do your own PR, and use 3rd party platforms to pull in customers to your business.  In this discussion I'll be covering those things exactly, so let's get started!

Use affiliate marketers
As you likely know, an affiliate marketer is a person who will post your links around the internet in order to make a commission on every sale they send you.  This is a common way to bring in new sales, but where do you get affiliate marketers to do just this?

A great place to think about getting affiliate marketers is Facebook!  What you'll need to do is set up an ad that targets people who like affiliate marketing or have it set as a profession on their profiles.  Make sure your ad has high quality pictures and text that says "We're looking for affiliate marketers" and you will likely get a lot of clicks.  I recently did a campaign like this and got 45 affiliate marketers and I only spent $30 on the campaign.  Now you're probably saying "$30 to only get 45 affiliate marketers?!?!?!" and I can see how that might be insane.  Yes, I only got 45 signups from my campaign, but those sign-ups have already made me $500 and I only spent $30 to get them into my website 4 free marketing methods a startup can use to get noticed

Another place to get them is ShareASale, but you need to be approved before you can start to acquire affiliate marketers, and that's not always an easy thing to do so I tend to stick with the facebook method 4 free marketing methods a startup can use to get noticed

Use content marketing
We've all heard that content is king, and it's certainly true because it can bring in a lot of visitors, but you need to be writing the correct content to get noticed.  If you're writing small 500-word blog posts and thinking you're going to get a few thousand people a day to read it, you're wrong and need to go back to the drawing board.  Now, if you're writing up 2,000-word blog posts that are very detailed and keep the readers interested, you'll eventually get noticed by bigger authority websites as well as the search engines who will likely boost your rankings solely from the content you're producing.

Take your time when you go this route, you don't want to waste it, which means you need to do the proper research before you even write your titles.  Figure out the keywords you want to target, set up a template of your post, then get an idea of what the content for each section of your post is going to be.  When you've done that, publish your rough draft and edit it over the next few days.

Do your own PR
A lot of people see PR as Page Rank in the SEO and online marketing world, but it was normally used as "Public Relations" before the internet started to take over the world.  If you're doing your own Public Relations, you're going to save a massive amount of money because you won't have to hire someone to come in and do it for you.

Go to companies that compliment your own and see if you can partner up with them.  If you get enough people to team up with you, you will notice your traffic beginning to increase more and more, which is always a good thing when it comes to boosting your sales 4 free marketing methods a startup can use to get noticed

By doing your own PR you're not only saving money, you're controlling your own image online, which is something you should want to be doing in the beginning because your image is everything and needs to be protected.

Use 3rd party platforms to pull in customers
A great way to do your own marketing on a budget to bring in customers is to use niche specific 3rd party platforms like forums and other types of communities that allow you to post your own content.  Of course, you won't be able to just spam your links wherever you want, you'll need to build up your authority within those platforms before you start to drop any sort of link, and that could take a while depending on how much time you invested into it.

You can also do this in Facebook groups that allow you to post freely, just be sure you're not breaking any rules and you're only linking to your products or services when someone is asking about them.

In conclusion
Doing your own marketing at the beginning of your startup may seem like a daunting task because you will be doing plenty of other things like running your daily operations, but you'll need to try in order to save money.  I know you would rather hire someone to do this, but that could be thousands of dollars in income that might be better used for promotions or building up your own following.  Try it on your own at first and bring someone on if it's too much and you can actually afford it.  Don't risk too much money on this in the beginning because it could really hurt your startup if it goes wrong.

What is your price if one is to hire you to make videos? You would have listed your services at he marketplace. There you will get many clients.

Starting up, I think the content marketing will be the most effective one. People will come back for your work. You will be known to be quality content writer. Using social media account will be also a way to get noticed. You just need to know how to used it properly.

Exactly! At first, not everyone who is new to his or her business can actually understand how to use affiliate marketing. So, it's very important to say that the use of content marketing would suit such new business better because it doesn't take much to get into content marketing unlike affiliate marketing.

Sadly content writers are one of the most underesrimated talents in this job. Clients will pay them low salary for quality content.

I think marketing through affiliates is better than doing your own SEO to bring sales. Well, I don't mean to say the SEO is not effective, what I mean is you do not have to work hard if you are using affiliate marketers, where as SEO is a lot of hard work. I have been doing affiliate marketing since a long time and based on my experience, I can say the the most of the companies that use affiliate networks such as linkshare, commission junction are the new companies that d not have a reputation in the market. Still by using affiliate marketers they are driving ales.

To be honest with you, you are absolutely correct with that assertion on using affiliate marketing to be better than trying to grow your business with your own SEO Services. SEO takes time depending on how you are going about. Most times, it takes more than 8 months before you will be able to start seeing the benefits of using SEO, it may actually be longer than that but with the use of affiliate marketers, you are most likely to get immediate benefits.

The main benefit of using affiliate marketers is you do not have to pay until they make sales for you. You pay only when you earn. Therefore, you do not have anything to lose. You can join affiliate marketing programs like Commission Junction, Linkshare for affiliate marketing. It is easier to find affiliate marketers if you join affiliate marketing networks.

Do you know that the Taj Mahal was not the first or only monument in marble in Agra? Baby Taj or Itimad-ud-Daulah is a tomb that was built by mother of Shah Jahan. It has a very delicate architectural beauty. The marble lattice structures in this monument are the highlight.

The baby girl brought a stroke of good luck to her parents, for Ghiyas Beg found a caravan that straightaway took him to the court of the great Mughal Emperor, Akbar.Mirz? Ghiy?s Beg was also the grandfather of Mumt?z Mah?l (originally named Arj?mand B?no, daughter of Asaf Khan), the wife of the emperor Sh?h Jah?n, responsible for the construction of the T?j Mahal. Nur Jehan was also responsible for the construction of the Tomb of Jehangir in Lahore.

Baby Taj located on the eastern bank of the Yamuna River, the mausoleum is set in a large cruciform garden criss-crossed by water courses and walkways. The mausoleum itself covers about twenty-three meters square, and is built on a base about fifty meters square and about one meter high. On each corner are hexagonal towers, about thirteen meters tall.

I get the sense that you are trying to drive across with this point. Seos may fail at the aspects that are quite easy for an affiliate to accomplish. An affiliate will also have tangible evidence of the number of customers they have brought in making it very easy for one to keep track.

I have solid plans of engaging in affiliate marketing soon because my present work as a freelancer is very discouraging in terms of earnings. Maybe it is time to spread my wings and do some selling promotions. I am also thinking of having my own website for the purpose to have freedom in the kind of promotion that I want to do with affiliate marketing. Maybe a blog to match my e-commerce site is a welcome idea.

I like the idea of free marketing methods. If you are just starting your business, you wouldn't want to spend more money to be noticed by everyone. And your four strategies are just perfect. Using affiliate marketers seems to be the most effective method for business growth. Who doesn't want commissions? I am sure that whoever sees your campaign will be more likely to join and this will add to your sales.

Yes I totally agree with you. With the right combination of the four factors plus right timing, you are on your way to the pot of gold. Tha pot of gold doesn't mean instant money. I believe a successful business is made up of a person who is HAPPY about whatever the outcome of his business, happy on what he is doing and monetary success is just a bonus.

I'm doing well Martin. I've been busy coping up with my personal life outside the online world.
Anyways, You are right about using social media as a tool to market one's business. Majority of the people in today's times is using social media. It would be effective to reach out on many audiences.

I am currently using content marketing and PR for my own start up business. I would definitely try the other two and hope that I might increase my sales and traffic. Informative article, by the way.

There are many start up businesses in my area that don't use the power of social media and I don't understand why. It's free and all you have to do is advertise your business. Post about your business, put up pictures, message certain groups to spread the word around.

I think that they overlook the influence of social media. I'm not sure if they have other marketing strategies but they could have resorted to this for one it's free and I don't think it requires much time and effort. It could be because they are not tech savvy or not used to social media.

Right? When I want to check some place that I want to go online, majority of them don't have a Facebook page or even a Google entry to begin with. It sucks living in the Philippines. When I was in the US, this wasn't a problem. Everyone knows that people now do a search online before they go somewhere. It's a virtual form of checking things out.

I think social media is so important these days in creating and establishing a brand - it's always crazy to me when businesses don't utilize it. Like you said it's ultimately free advertising!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Zelmontero
The best part in advertising in social media is that it is free. You just need to invest some time and you can advertise anytime. Also people nowadays spend their time in social media. They could be watching video in YouTube, updating their Facebook and uploading pictures in Instagram.

These are platforms which businesses should really take advantage of because they're free and have a wider reach. You just have to be strategic to woo your customers to make the most of it.

I totally agree with you. Advertising and promoting is really difficult especially when you really want to increase you traffic. Partnering with other companies that could help you advertise with just a small amount is such a good idea. You could also use your social media profiles to boost up your advertising. You can just create a page and the you now have a free online advertisement. You just need to be resourceful for you to be able to become successful.

I love the last thing that you said that you just need to be resourceful to becomes successful. Just like what the article discussed, you don't have to spend money here and there especially when you are just starting up the business. You can strategically do marketing on a budget like the number of ways suggested here. The most convenient one for me is using a third party which includes the widest known social media which is Facebook.

Yeah, it would be good to partner with a company for promotion most especially when you really do not have an experience. The small amount would be worth it just find a legit company. Social media profile would be a good way to start advertising your company

Times have changed right now. Even if say you don't get featured on TV, you can still find other marketing sources to boost traffic. Most of which are available online. Marketing is shifting more on the online side nowadays.

Affiliate marketing and content marketing are the ones I'm familiar with at the moment out of the four discussed here. I'm not sure how it works though for starters especially the former. I am thinking that you have to be an established seller before they post your links. They probably would be thinking of profitability or their commission before they work with you for free or they might give way to other services or products to market instead? I admit I have much to learn.

Using free sources to market a business can be such a helpful thing as a startup. Having worked for a couple of startup businesses before, you're often on a limited budget and trying to get yourself known and create a name for yourself - and that's not easy! If you've got free ways to market yourself that can be helpful in so many ways.

When you are just starting out you have to be very careful about your advertising budget. You can reach a large customer base with aggressive advertising, however, this also increases your operational cost. Since no one wants to risk their investment, you have to look for free marketing methods. Some of the common free marketing methods are social media marketing, forum promotion, affiliate marketing, giving freebies, discounts etc. Of all of these the most effective one is affiliate marketing. That's because you do not have to pay marketers in advance.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Absolutely! There are lots of options that are really cost effective (or even better - free!!) that startups and small businesses can take advantage of. Even if I was running a big company I'd still want to take advantage of the free options too, to save some money and get our name out there more.

If you are selling you can also try ecommerce marketplace like ebay, zazzle, etsy etc. You can list your products on these marketplaces and then link to your website/business. The people who buy from your ebay/zazzle/etsy store and like your product will surely check your website.

In free sources you only need to invest knowledge and time. It is the most effective source for me since you do not have to pay any money. You can increase your viewers without spending any money.

It is a good advice to do your public relations campaign because you are not only fostering a connection to the businesses in the industry but also learning ways to be successful. Meeting successful people can help you in a subtle way like getting tips from them. But the main essence of doing your own public relations campaign is to let your business be known all over town.

All 4 tips are fantastic. Although I was mistaken at your 3rd tip. When I saw "PR" I immediately thought of Press Release. I know of a 3rd party platform that lets members do their own press releases free of charge.

Affiliate marketing and social media are two of the best ways to promote a product or services. We just need to invest a lot of time before the fruits of success be realized. It would really help to tap the help of your friends in social media in promoting your business. Just imagine if yott have about a thousand of friends in your social media and you promote your business to them and out of those 1000 friends only 100 of them share or promote it to their friends. Just imagine how many people have been reached through the use of social media. Thats the power of networking.
