    There's a special formula for this that you will discover through time. Depending on the site layout and your daily traffic. For blog sites its normal to have a top right ad banner, then on the sidebar a banner or text links (I don't know what better suits your needs). Finally (since google allows 3 ads per page), at the end of your blog post you could have text link ads. That's because visitors tend to scan (not read word-by-word the entire article) the post and read some basic keywords from start - middle and end of the article.

    You are not allowed to trick them to click on your ads or ask them do to so. Just change them a couple of times and see what better works for you. Also the aesthetically result should be good for the eye.

    You can place ads on the header, footer, sidebar and in the middle of the content. These spots get most visibility. Based on your site layout and theme, you will have numerous options to put ads, however, you should have ads on the places that get most visibility. You must avoid putting too many ad units. Three ad units per page is considered the best option.
