Depends on what sort of website or blog you're running and how current you need to keep your readers.

Overall, I support active websites and blogs that update consistently. However, quality will always be better than quantity. The same principle applies to running a website or blog. If you can continuously create good content worth viewing then, by all means, update often! So long as your overall post quality doesn't drop.

Personally, I like to have a scheduled day for readers to know when I update. Helps build devoted visitors. At the same time, deadlines aren't the easiest to keep. Nevertheless, I suggest starting off by updating your site every week. If you gain consistent and good traffic while maintaining excellent posts quality, nothing is wrong with updating twice a week (maybe Mondays and Fridays?).

Whether you're vlogging for Youtube or a blogger for your own website. Uploading new content daily isn't the easiest. Many people have tried (and somewhat succeeded). However, it generally doesn't last for long periods of time. I feel you put yourself on a working clock that doesn't make your career fun anymore.

I think updating a blog depend so much on a niche like entertainment, news and gossip niches need to be updated immediately a new break,so as to capture the steam of the moment.

But averagely all niches should be updated once or twice a week.

Yes, publishing a fresh content daily is not easy, in fact, if you are working alone you cannot post daily. If you want to post daily, you need many content developers working for you. Further, if you do not have a lot of subscribers/visitors, there is no point in publishing content daily. By having too many contents you are spamming. IN this case, having one new content every week is a better idea.

If you have active readers on your websites, you need to publish at least one article every week. If subscribers are your primary traffic source, you need to give them fresh contents regularly. If you don't give them fresh contents, you will lose your readership. If a large portion of your traffic comes from social media, you need to publish at least two articles in a month. If you share the same old articles again and again, you will lose your traffic. However, if your traffic is basically search engine traffic, one article per month will be considered good.

This is a good discussion for the benefit of newcomers to the SEO game especially for new bloggers. When I was co-blogging, the frequency of updating that we follow is 3 times a week, that is once a week for me and twice a week for the main blogger. And if there are more readers following the blog, it is advised to upload new contents more often even as often as once a day. With new contents, you get more traffic from the readers and also from the searchers of your niche since the often updating of your contents contribute to the SEO capability of your website which means your link will get a good rank in the search list.
