IS LINUX BETTER THAN WINDOWS SERVER

I saw somewhere recently that Linux server is more Secured than Windows and that most of the world's viruses run on Windows, but what beats me is that Linux is free, while Windows costs money. How is it that what is free has a better quality than that which is free?

In my area- we all have been using Windows from 1995. At first it was DOS- Disk operating system and day by day Windows 98, Windows 2000 server, Windows NT, Windows Millennium, Windows Vista, Windows 2003, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 9 and now have been using windows 10 completely free. Now a days windows 10 is the best operating system in this world. For that reason you will be need to install minimum windows 7 and than you will be need unlimited internet connection for minimum 2-3 days so that your windows can convert automatically from windows 7 to windows 10. Windows 10 have the world best anti virus program- Bit Defender works automatically with the operating system. So there have no cost.

Hope you will become a windows member also. There have no problem with windows 10 for the last few years.

Thanks

Linux is basically free, it's an open source operating system which was developed by contributing individuals around the globe. It's been available as long as Windows. It was created by a student named Linus and it was open source, people can improve and contribute to its development.

What are the exact benefits of using Linux compared to let's say Windows 10? And how easy is it to install it onto my laptop?

Well, Windows is more user friendly than Linux that's why mainstream users opted for Windows that made it very successful than Linux. Windows is more appealing and easier to understand and operate than Linux. That's why people are willing to pay for it rather than using a free one.

You got it right. I wouldn't want to be using something that won't be giving me the necessary features that is okay for me. I make use of Windows and it has been cool as I have antivirus as a backup from attacks as well. It is about understanding what you really want.

I would point out that not all Linux operating systems are free, just most. Red Hat Enterprise Linux for example, costs money.

In one tv program that I saw a few days ago, there was the casual debate about Linux and Windows. It was a dynamic but friendly debate among the members of a musical band. Anyway, the gist of the story is that Windows is user-friendly while Linux is highly technical. In other words, for a non-techie, Windows will be an advantage while Linux will be a hard nut to crack. For me, it will be Windows even if there is a license fee because I don’t have the patience to tinker with Linux.

Great share. This is the first thing that comes to my mind too. Windows operating system is definitely user-friendly than Linux operating system and yes it's true that Linux is more on technical so if the user is not actually a techy person then he couldn't use Linux efficiently. I have some idea on computer related ideas but I still prefer to use windows because it is more convenient for me and it's one of the trend.

I think the thread is in context of servers. Not in terms of desktop usage. Most of the time linux servers are lot better. And the performance of the servers is ten fold compared to the windows. on that note I'd say that windows is only good for the desktop. I wont bother for the windows on server.

I also wonder why Linux is not widely used. However@corzhens you've gone out of your way to explain and your explanation makes sense. Many people still use the older version of Windows that are filled with viruses and still so slow because they have stopped receiving updates from Windows. I think the problem is also Linux, in that the don't advertise their platform. Many people don't know about them or that they are another option you an use instead of windows that can be expensive.

Windows is more used worldwide compared to Linux, that's what makes it "easier". So, it's more like we are used to that system, and we don't care to find and learn about any other, at least that's what I've noticed so far. Linux tends to be free, while Windows charge you for everything extra. But honestly, Linux is way much better when it comes to security. Due to the fact, Windows is more used, then mostly all viruses and malwares, run on it, while Linux is free from those annoying issues.

I think windows and Linux are both great! They have their own advantages and functionality. Linux can be freely downloaded. While Windows has to be purchased. Windows can support a lot of applications and software. It uses a command shell and each version of Windows has a single command interpreter. Since Windows was developed by Microsoft, Microsoft applications like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc can be only installed on devices that run Windows 7 and later version. Windows is available for desktop PC, laptops and selected mobile phones only. On the other hand, Linux is available for a lot of devices including different computers, tablet, big range of mobile devices and mainframes.

I think it depends on what system is most familiar with. Both of them are both used all over the world and have their own distinct features. I have a friend that's a Linux user and when i tried to convince him to go for a windows server he just said that he's more familiar with Linux system. I guess the same goes for me, i'm more of a windows user because i know my capability with windows is far more efficient than Linux.

I have taken the linux Cpanel for the VPS. And it seems to be performing lot better. And people can verify their own experience. That linux is lot better and it is also cheap. You can see that windows is expensive. And maintaining it is a bit pain in the head. So it's kind of better option for you to work with the linux based installers on the server side. Now that docker and the kubernete is out, you'd find that more useful.

I have tried linux once but i still like to stick on windows even if it is not free. Windows are more user friendly than linux which I like the most. Windows also are more used than linux and I think windows are more secured than linux.

There are more users that are using Windows instead of Linux. I tried Linux before and I would say that Windows is more user friendly. If you want to use Linux, you might want to have more knowledge about computers some troubleshooting might be complicated and complex. Linux is free and as far as I know, it is highly secure Operating System than Windows.

Windows is much more efficient. Yes, windows has pros and cons the same goes to Linux. The thing that you said are some cons of the windows but the developers will able to fix it in to time just contact them. Windows has a good user interface and has an easy controls to configure. Yes, it costs a lot but it is much worth it because we can customize our PC into it. Search the pros and cons of Windows in Google for more info.

I am using windows since then, and I would refer it to everybody than Linux, because windows is very user-friendly, and it is one of the best operating systems all over the world, but I am not disregarding the Linux because Linux is good too well if you want a system that won't get a virus, because Linux can defect viruses so it won't get virus.

No, still windows are the best than Linux. Yes for some instance maybe because Linux deflects virus unlike windows it is vulnerable.

If its on security yes linux is better, but if it's for user friendly, I'll go with Windows.

I don't think that Linux is better than Windows when it comes to ease of use. I agree to the fact that windows is expensive and Linux is totally free, but that doesn't mean that Linux is a better operating system. Windows can very easily be used even by people with very little or no knowledge of computers. I have been using windows for years now but haven't encountered any major problem till now with its use. I guess a person who is very well versed with the working of computers would find Linux more useful than Windows. But Windows is the first choice for all the ordinary users who need an operating system which is easy to use

I fully agree with you that Linux is free but not easy because it is difficult to use. We had an issue with the license of Microsoft in our office some years ago that we had tested using Linux instead of Windows. But it was not to be since most of the users either complained or asked for assistance. For me, it is still Windows even if it has a cost on the license but using the operating system is like a breeze.

IS LINUX BETTER THAN WINDOWS SERVER: For me the advantage of using the Linux aside that it is free, Linux is safer than windows, it can even fight against trojan virus so if ever you can to have a safer server then must be use the Linux one, the affordable one but what I love in windows is its friendly user server than Linux, I hobestly want to use windows than Linux.

Linux performance is better and this is an undeniable fact. If you want high performance site, you should choose Linux: with the same hardware configuration Linux server will run faster than the same one on Windows. In the case of Windows, you need to improve the server configuration, which makes it more expensive to maintain. As an operating system it may be more robust, but Linux sites are just as down as any other. The reason is in the Apache setup as well as in the way it works - it is recommended to switch to nginx for heavily loaded projects. In other words, if the administrator cannot set up a Linux server properly, the reliability and stability of the web server cannot be expected. And here it is not about the operating system, but about the skills of a particular person.
