Another great advantage is that the exercise of learning another language creates new pathways in the brain. This enables you to be more proficient and analytical in life situations, being able to see things from a different perspective. When you study a new language, you also have to understand and investigate the culture of that particular area, and this also contributes to your logic skills and to have a broader vision.

You have forgotten one good reason for learning a foreign language is the availability of the learning methods which you can find in the internet. As what Sir Edmund Hillary said when he reached the top of Mount Everest, “it was there for climbing” which means like the learning ways are there and all you need is to use it for learning a language. However it is not easy to learn a language for you have to speak it often.

Learning a Foreign Language or Second Language next to your Native Language and being highly proficient in reading, writing, comprehending and speaking is very important in this age of globalization. It can open a lot of doors or opportunities in trade and business. Learning foreign languages allows you to communicate with different people which might open great opportunities for business or for work. For example, if you know how to speak Mandarin which is the language of the Chinese, you could be an interpreter or you can work as a teacher. It would be easier to go to a foreign land and get along with the people of you know how to speak their language.

I believe there are plenty of good reasons as to why we should try to learn other languages apart from our mother tongue. For me, the most important reason as to why I have to learn other languages is the fact that my future is still ahead of me and I might be able to come across people from different countries whose language is very different from mine. For me, the purpose of language is to communicate effectively and be able to create an understanding. And so, because of that purpose, I want to learn other languages to create better understanding with other nationalities whom I might meet in the near future.

I think it is very crucial to learn a new language. In middle school, I started to learn Spanish. However, I did not stick to it and eventually removed it from my classes. This was probably a bad decision but looking back I thought most of the world knows English which was very ignorant on my part.

Learning a second language could potentially help you in future job endeavors. There are a lot of positions in the United States that require for you to speak fluently in Spanish. Some of these jobs are high paying and if I would have stayed in Spanish classes I could have possibly submitted an application for the job positions but because I know very little Spanish I was not offered such jobs. So if you ever think of learning a second language you should do it. Not only will it increase your intelligence but it could also end up increasing your bank account.

My high school also had us learn a language, but as a teenager I was also like "when am I actually going to need to use this?!" and it ended up being my "lazy" class.

There are plenty of reasons why someone why we should all learn foreign languages. Instead of learning many languages and barely scratching the surface, it is better to learn one or two but attain near-native fluency.

For freelancers this opens up more markets for you. On Freelancer sites where most of the writers know only one language, you could easily be hired to write articles in some other language you know since there is less competition. Better still, most translation jobs pay better than many content writing jobs. That should be a good enough reason to learn foreign languages.

I am from a country that considers English as a foreign language and people here do think that it is very important to learn a foreign language, especially English. Our lives don't only revolve around a small place, we are all affected by globalization in this generation, and being left out will not help you survive. Most products nowadays are labelled in English, especially in our country, wherever we go and whatever we do, we encounter foreign words and we even have to use them in some cases. I mean, to some degree I have to ask myself why shouldn’t we learn foreign languages? It’s a big, open world out there with plenty of opportunities. You never know where your business is going to take you, and it may come in handy to know a foreign language.

There are also instances in life where knowing another language just helps in random situations. I used to live in NYC, and learned Spanish as my third language while I was in High School. While on the subway, there was a lady panicking because she was lost and didn’t know how to get to a destination, but she only spoke Spanish. Thanks to the fact that I knew Spanish to some degree, I was able to help calm her down and give her directions to her destination.

You never know when it will come in handy.

Being able to help someone in need is such a wonderful benefit of knowing more than one language. My grandmother was Italian and moved to the US, and ended up having to translate for other Italians many times when they didn't know English and she did. It saved people a lot of stress, and it's such a small gesture that can really change someone's day.

Yeah, it’s definitely a fantastic feeling to be able to be that little ray of hope in someone’s day when it feels like everything is in shambles. I’ve had the experience of being in a country where you don’t know the language and needing help, so it’s such a relief when you finally meet someone who knows the language you speak.

It’s why I’ve actually considered becoming an interpreter in the country I’m currently living in, but even with my advanced understanding of the language here, I still need more practice to speak it fluently. Maybe one day.

I consider myself bilingual because English is our second language and I’d say I can converse in English very well. When we went to Japan last year, I tried to learn Nihonggo so that I could talk with the Japanese. I was good in practicing at home but when we were in Osaka where I find the people friendly, I couldn’t speak Nihonggo because they were speaking to me in broken English. It was such a waste that I had studied a foreign language that I was not able to use.

Yes that's true. We can communicate to them well since we know how to speak their language. It's also easier for us to work since we speak fluently on their language.

Hey!

Foreign languages are everything nowadays. Our entire world is connected, and our demographics are booming.
Have you ever heard the Babylonian tower story? If they had a linguist there, all the builders wouldn't start fighting each other, hehe.

Learning a foreign language is really a good idea because it can help us to communicate with other people around the world aside from the fact that we can used it for earning purposes. There were a particular instance before that I used a foreign language just to have a conversation from a stranger that I just met on the road and asking for help. The good thing is that I know how to speak English a little bit which leads me to know the needs of the young man and help him for his problem because maybe If I don't know how to speak with a foreign language then I might not able to help him and do some favor with him.

Well I find it advantageous when we are going to learn foreign language because when we are going to another country we won't nee an interpreter to fully understand what the locals are talking about. We can interact with them and also learn something from them.

Aside from learning the culture and interacting to the foreigners, it is also an advantage when you want to work abroad since it would be easier for you to adapt and talk directly to the locals. It would easier for you to deliver or communicate well when you know how to speak their language.

Yes I agree that learning a language is really helpful especially if we will be working abroad because most of the people that we will encounter have a different language compare to what we are using before in our own country. We will learn here on how to use and apply our learning on foreign language and it will really test how good we are on that particular thing. Through learning a foreign language we can easily make a conversation with other people without being afraid of having miscommunication that sometimes really happen in real life situation.

Learning a foreign language can come in handy in a variety of situations. It can be very useful if you want to live or work in another country. Speaking multiple languages can also open many doors for you professionally, especially if you want to work for a company that does business on a global scale or to be a diplomat.

I consider learning different language to be a gift. It is important if you wanted to go abroad and visit different countries for work-related job. Aside from that, it can be an income earner as well. There are online job that requires people who are adept in using different languages. Someone who knows how to speak English and be able to translate it in Spanish, Korean or any other languages and vice-versa. The pay scheme seems to be hefty as well. Bad for me because, I only have a very limited language vocabulary.

Aside from my mother tongue, I can say that I know English well enough and it's really a great advantage for me. I am very grateful to my parents because they sent me to a good school that teaches the English language well. Now, I would like to know more foreign languages. There are more opportunities for you if you know other languages and you can earn a lot from it.

Because it makes us feel a part of this big world and understand other cultures, knowing a forein language allows one to live few lifes at the same time. I know 3 languages and one of them is Italian so when I decided to take a course in the Italian language school, I realised this culture and this language always was a part of me and my soul.

Many people learn foreign languages for communication, or maybe to increase their chances of getting hired by big companies. I learn Japanese because I'm a huge fan of Japanese culture, and every time I watch movies on lingopie in the original language, it helps me understand this country from the inside.
