I actually prefer soft cover books myself. Easier to carry around (especially when traveling), usually cheaper than their hard cover counterparts, and more comfortable to hold when you read them!

I have several books on my phone which if I were to buy in terms of their hard copies I probably would have a whole sack on my back when walking around. It is so cumbersome and hectic and hence my choice will always be soft books.

Yes, it is really easier to carry and cheap. I love it too.

Yes that is really true and I agree with it, I also prefer soft copy of books since it is very convenient at all times especially if we are into some travel and other company activities. I can enjoy my reading without the burden of carrying heavy hard copies of books that are now becoming obsolete due to the advancement of technology that we have for today.

I agree with you, they are also easy to stored, but if you accidentally delete it, it will be gone forever.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
Not true because once you delete you can replace it easily by downloading or looking for the one that was stored at a backup place. You can actually delete the old books to save on space and then replace them if you need them again.

Yes that is true, we can still repeat the download process if we accidentally deleted some of our e book since everything is very possible now due to the advancement in technology that we are facing now. We can also have a back up on it if we wishes so that we can easily stored them again if we are experiencing some trouble.

Youngshark
Very correct and actually the backup is the safest means that you can store a soft-book especially on a device that is kept offline hence the possibilities of it being interfered with are lower.

I also prefer soft copies lately because of how I can easily bring them whenever I want with just the use of one device. Although, I am a bit concerned about my eyesight specially that the light gadgets emit brings radiation that is definitely dangerous to the eyes and to the whole body. However, even if there's a problem like that, I still believe that ebooks/soft copies bring more good than bad to the environment and the entire humanity.

You have a very good point about the price differences between soft copies and hard copies.

Printing books in hard copies are very expensive then making ebooks soft copies. So, to be economical in buying books, the soft copies are better to go for.

I'm trying to be more minimalist in life as well - there's something nice about less clutter and less to clean. If I have bookshelves full of books, I end up having more to clean and dust! Having more copies of things on my kindle saves space and time!

Yes, and you can just even download it from the net for free or sometimes it will cost you but not too much.

The soft bound books were in fashion during my high school years. That’s how I learned to read romance books that were small and thin that it is a real pocket book since it can fit in my pocket. I could have the book any time and I have something to read when I am in a waiting situation. But now what we have is the cell phone that we use when we are in a waiting situation. I have never seen one reading a pocket book anymore.

Nicely, it is a personal reason which everyone what they prefer. Having stated that, due to the fact I am asked to answer this, I'm an old school guy and that I decide on reading hard copies of the book. Because one way or the other discover it more enjoyable and the emotional connect is greater when you read the hard copies.

Being an old school is definitely going to influence the readers to choose hard copies because it's what they are very much used to for a very long time. My parents don't have any flair for anything soft copies of books. The light on the laptop screen affects their vision.

I love the feeling of having hard copy books. And if there's a way I can easily gain access to all the books i would want to read, there's no way I'd settle for soft copies. So based on the grounds of accessibility and availability, I'd say that I prefer soft copies. More still, soft copies can be easily protected from theft and loss by fire or any other occurrences.

I must admit that when I get into the study of someone who is an old school book reader, it makes me appreciate how lovely their books collection looks.

I have a few collection of my own but it's not too much to brag about. Soft copies are very convenient to read at anytime and anywhere.

I am a fan of soft copies. My laptop and phone are loaded with soft copies of books. I find it convenient because whenever I can read whenever I am traveling or away from the house. Nonetheless, I also read hard copies, especially those that are nor easier to find a soft copy. I have a small library in my house.

This can he helpful if you are living in a place where the power supply is constant. In the country that we are living in, it is always difficult for us to have constant electricity and for that reason, it is always difficult to have access to those books anything that I want to read them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

focusedwriter10
True. There are also some parts that do not have electricity back here, although electrification is going on. I used to walk around with hard copies some years ago.

It is really convenient, but the feeling is not the same when you are reading an actual book.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

focusedwriter10
Well, I agree that reading an actual book comes with a unique feeling compared to soft copies. Also, you encounter less disruption when reading hard copies.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You can actually say this when the book has to be signed by the author to indicate that they indeed have autographed it. This is something which is quite difficult with online books.

I was actually introduced to one site that offers soft copies of novels called WebNovel. I did checked out the site and was very much impressed with lots of novels available on the site especially the horror stories. I'm definitely going download the ones that I find very interesting and read them as soon as possible.

This is a very tough question for me tho. I actually like both because of so many different reasons. For example, I like hard copies because I like it when my books are perfectly arranged on my shelves and also I like them because I won't have to use any devices to read them, hence energy conservation. On the other hand, I like ebooks because I can store them on my laptop and any other devices which is definitely convenient for travelling. However, I also hate both for some reasons like there's too much trees that are being cut for paper production which is used for printing books while for ebooks, it can damage my eyesight and I don't want it to happen because I hate wearing eye glasses of any sort.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
I have that kind of dilemma too. Wanting to save the environment or wanting to save my eye from damaging.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Yeah. It's so hard to choose when you know that both has positive and negative effects on you as a person and to the environment. However, I guess it's best to weigh in the positive and negative effects of both to see if which among them will really have a bigger impact. Although it's not an easy task.

You have a great point. Even if we prefer one over the other, there will always be pros and cons of a choice. I actually prefer and like soft copies more, but my problem would always be my eyesight.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Thanks and you're definitely right. In everything, there will always be a positive and negative outcome and that's inevitable but sad.

Same here, I also love to read ebooks but I also prioritize my eyesight although it's still healthy but I really don't wanna mess it up because i hate wearing glasses of any kind.

For many reasons, I will always prefer to have hard copies since it is a great way that I can always have access to those books whenever that I have the need for it. Imagine when I saved an e-book on my mobile and the device is switched off when I need to read the contents, it will be difficult for me to do so. That is one reason I always prefer to have hard copies.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you, no matter how cheap ebooks are, I don't feel like getting one because it's just different when you are reading a book, you can touch it and smell it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I like hard bound better, because it is more presentable when display and is more durable.

No matter to me that technology is pushing for soft books or eBooks, I will always love a hard copy book. Always!

I love that you're a traditionalist when it comes to books...I'm going to be honest, even though I go for soft copies a lot of the time for convenience/cost, there's just something about that new book smell that I love!

I use hard bound book, because I love how it looks. And, I love sniffing and hugging my books after reading, I also think that soft copies doesn't have the book kind of experience, even if it is just the same content.

When it comes to reading books nowadays I prefer reading ebooks because it's cheaper to order and it doesn't get dusty, dirty or wet. Also reading using an online device is really great because it's easier to access references and Google some interesting things which are mentioned in the eBook.

I'm an avid reader. In order to get more books to read I'd have to choose between borrowing books from the local library which is about 5 miles from where I live or download a free ebook any time I need to read something new. For convenience's sake I always download the free ebooks because I don't have to leave my house.

I probably would prefer hard copies but I just can't read many of them anymore.

I love reading and I used to love hard copies. As time has gone by I have had to change my attitude to this.I have realized that reading books in soft copy its easier. First of all you don't have to anywhere you can get your book at the click of a button. You can also get many of these books free online in forums and groups. So i think that I prefer to read my books in soft copy. It was hard to adopt but the pros out way the cons.

I love reading books. I mostly liked hard copies because I usually keep it and store it like a collection. Aside from that you can also sell those books again.

I will choose soft copies because soft copies don't need paper, so, therefore, conclude that less paper, fewer resources.

I can’t deny that soft copies are an incredibly convenient way to build a library of books. You can carry literally hundreds of books on a single device, and that’s pretty darn incredible if I’m being honest. But do I prefer them to hard copies? Nope.

In my opinion, you simply can’t beat the tactile aspect of holding a book in your hands. It’s an entirely different reading experience when you can feel and turn the page, smell the paper, feel the weight of it in your hands. It feels like a more genuine experience than just holding a tablet and staring at a screen, swiping to turn pages.

That's one thing I get hugely nostalgic for - that "new book smell". You don't get the same interaction with your senses from an ebook that you do from a hard copy, but for me a lot of it comes down to expense. I love reading, but if I was to buy a new hard copy book each time I wanted something new to read, I'd be broke!

I guess I need to utilize my local library more!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
Yeah, a lot of the time it comes down to expenses for me as well. In the end, eBooks are always going to be cheaper due to production, shipping, and distribution costs.

I love buying hardcover books preferably, mostly because of the way they look but also because of their durability. But that being said, that can get super expensive. If it were up to me, I’d have an entire library in my home of just hardcover books, but unfortunately, I’m not rich enough for that.

Like you said, thankfully there’s the local library!

The stress of carrying hard copies of books is one of the most common reasons why a lot of people prefer to make use of soft copies.

You can have in your possession thousands of books without feeling like you are having anything at all. But if it's hard copies, they are definitely going to cause you troubles carrying them.

I prefer soft copies. They are very convenient and you can access them anytime and anywhere. Also, when you have assignments or something that you have to quote or cite, you can do copy-paste without wasting your time. It definitely is a time-saver.

I think that hard copies are only good during some power failure because we can still be enjoying reading articles with the help of these hard copies since we cannot read soft copies during power outrage that is why it is still good to have.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
That’s actually a good point you make. Hard copies don’t require any power, chargers or cables - so you don’t need to worry about things like batteries dying! Definitely a good bonus of the humble hard copy book right there!

It depends on where I am regarding books or articles that I would read. I normally prefer a printed book because it doesn’t hurt my eye like a soft copy that gives me the glare of the screen even when I am using a tablet. But when I am on the go especially when I would be taking the plane that I had to wait for a long time in the airport, I would settle for a softcopy so that it will not be a burden to carry.

I love books whether a hard or soft copy. It doesn't really matter to me as long as I can read them. I love reading books but I don't have enough space for more books. So, soft copies are good addition without requiring extra physical storage.

What's your favorite book copies: I prefer hard copies because the first book I'v read to be honest is the PHR EDITION (Precious Heart Romance). In every stories they published touches my entire life. In every storirs they wrote has a moral lesson.

I often read articles online. So, I would prefer soft copies. It's easy to access and handy to begin with. Plus, I don't have to purchase it. It will be a great savings and a space saver. It gives us the knowledge that we want. Besides, it doesn't matter whether soft or hard copies for as long as you enjoyed what you read. It satisfy your needs.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Hard copies. There's just something about the smell of books that helps relax your mind. Although soft copies are more convenient since you can carry a lot in just your phone/tab/reader, it's still not the same as a physical copy you're holding, flipping through the pages, and not straining your eyes so much for staring at a lighted screen. It's just better for me.
