Should Facebook support enable profile name to be changed frequently and not on 30 days interval?

Woke up this today with an early morning call from my sister that her Facebook account has been hacked. I remembered giving her instructions to set up two-factor authentication to fully secure her account from being hacked because it's a trend now with so many people's accounts being hacked on daily basis.

I have actually managed to recover her account by resting the password but the most annoying thing is that her profile name has already been changed and it can't be changed again till 30 days.

Do you think Facebook support team should enable profile name to be changed frequently and not on 30 days interval?

I didn't even know that there's a 30 day waiting period for changing a profile name twice. I do think that Facebook should just allow people to change their profile name atleast thrice a month automatically after that a 30 day waiting period is amenable.

This is my first time to know that there is a 30 days waiting period to change profile. This is probably a safety measure for any users to be protected. To avoid fake accounts and spammers. I am not an active user of Facebook. I am unaware and sometimes don't care on issues pertaining to Facebook activity.

In theory Facebook doesn't want you to use fake accounts. That's the reason for the 30 days pause. But yet again, how could someone change their real name every 30 days or so. Personally, I've never used that function.

Yes, that's Facebook wants, to reduce the possibility of creating fake accounts. But, there are people who just want to go with the trend and put like a made-up first name.

Has it been changed to 30 days now because the last time I checked it was for 60 days before one can change the profile name. Well, we can't blame the Facebook support because I know all these is done for individuals safety. Facebook believed that if it nothing fraudulent nobody will need to change a profile name almost monthly so the implementation of the law. I think that waiting time is just right this will deter people from abusing the previledge of changing one's profile name. Your sister just have to wait, it just a month she will get her profile name back

I think facebook has done that to avoid the spammers from changing name for safety. By enabling that feature they have managed to catch up many spammers and identity theft users. So you can see that such type of the restriction definitely help makes the facebook a better safe site. If they make such feature which reduces time, then spammers and other people can take advantage of this loophole.

The risk of being active on Facebook is something that we should always take a look at. One thing that I have always tried to do when I have any social media account is to ensure that I put up strong security for it. On the account of Facebook lifting the 30 day profile name changing, I feel they don't want a situation where people keep changing names with ease every time.

I'm in favor of keeping the 30-day limit. It's also a precautionary measure against online swindlers. Being able to conveniently change identities in Facebook would make it a lot easier for them to do their dirty businesses online.

I didn't know that there is a 30 day limit in changing a profile picture. I don't use facebook frequently so I don't change my profile pic occasionally if this rule is to prevent fake accounts and spammers I am 100% supporting this law or rule.

I heard from a friend of mine that some people do change profile pic every day to bad they can't do it anymore

Yeah I don’t know this too. But changing your name frequently is really a hassle for me. Personally, I don’t like it. It’s so much work. Maybe you can change it if needed but not frequently.

I thought you had to wait more than 30, wasn't it 60 or 90 days? I wasn't too sure about why they implemented such a policy, but now that I'm reading the comments it kind of makes sense. Security is important, although it seems FB has had some security breaches that gave the site bad reputation.

The last name I changed my name was because I wanted to use an online reputation management service called BrandYourself. I haven't changed it since. But the name that I have, I don't think anybody wants it. LOL. Even so, changing my profile name would be a pain in the butt. Correct me if I'm wrong, when you change your name if someone clicks a link to your old profile name from your website, it does NOT redirect to your new profile name. Does it? That's why I think it would be a pain in the butt.

I didn't know that facebook has that kind of rule when it comes to changing your profile name. We cannot blame facebook about it because it was just for the safety of the other users. In your case, maybe you could report it right away to their support and the hacker changed the name but if you are able to retrieve the account and facebook support can't do anything about it, maybe you should just wait for the 30days. What is good for now is that you already retrieve the account from the hacker and didn't use it for some crimes or scam that would be dangerous for you personally.

Actually i don't think that changing the time interval in facebook profile name will get a great impact in this society since not all people are changing their profile name some are just contented to the names they put in their profile. But i think in your case that your sister facebook has been hacked i'm sure that you wanted facebook to change their time interval in changing profile names that is also what i feel i f that happens to me i think. But why don't your sister try other social media platform like instagram and twitter. Don't just focus in facebook there are still other social media platform. But i do understand your situation.

I have noticed that the changing of profile name is not as frequent as before because Facebook had installed a lock of 60 days. Now you say it is 30 days. But why is there a need to change the profile name? It is the identity of the user and changing it is like covering your real identity, right? To be honest I am annoyed when people would reverse the spelling of their profile names. It just doesn’t make sense to confuse us.

IMO I don't think facebook users should be changing their names at all. Maybe when you sign up and use a fake name, you could be allowed to change your name but need that 30 day waiting period so you "learn your lesson."

Some sites actually don't permit you to change your name unless you send them documents to verify your identity - actually prove that the new name you want to use is your "real" name.

Since Facebook and other social media sites have been used for bullying, scamming and other horrible activities, I think they should start forcing people to use their real names when they register. Names you can't change ever.

During the time Facebook had unlimited name changes it gets so confusing and annoying that people change their names regularly. It was the era of role playing accounts. People with anime/game character names were everywhere on Facebook. And I do agree with you that people need to use their real name on their accounts.

Last time I checked it was 60 days. Anyway, there's way to glitch the system into not having to wait 60 days for a name change. I think it's a great that they have that feature because it stops people from always changing their names. Believe me I have a few friends who changed their names regularly almost everyday when they haven't had this limit implemented. Believe me it gets annoying and really confusing. But like I said there's a glitch you can do to make it so you can change without waiting. I'm just not sure if it still works.

EDIT: OR! Do it the legal way lol here's the 'how to' link! I hope it helps. click me

Facebook wants people to use their real names.
According to Facebook's Help Center: "Facebook is a community where everyone uses the name they go by in everyday life. This makes it so that you always know who you're connecting with."

Personally, I'm not a fan of people changing names frequently, it gets confusing especially when they change it to something unrecognizable. So yes, the 30-day rule does make sense and I'm not against it because in reality we don't really change our names, I believe some people do but the majority of us, never. This is something I respect about Facebook.

Some people may want to change their names maybe because they are married e.t.c. This is social media so everyone should choose what they want to do. Facebook wants you to use your real name so that they can mine your data. It is all for their own good and not yours. You should be able to change your profile when you want to.

Facebook is a very famous social media application used by many users around the globe, with information any hackers would really love to get through. I had concerns with my Facebook account as well since I was not able to access two of my accounts even though I've been using the right password. Hackers are just lurking around anywhere waiting to get your data and it is always good to make our account safe. I tried two-way authentication but not even that manage to keep my account safe. As for the name, it is better not to change so that people within your community will be able to recognize you.

Should facebook support enable profile name to be changed frequently and not on 30 days interval: I am not aware also that there such like policy in facebook because as I remember I changed my name last two years ago and never did it again but I am agree with that 30 days interval because changeng a name is not that kind of simple thing form everyone of us.

I don't want the standard rule of Facebook to change. I mean, your name should be there for 30 days or more. You should be responsible with your actions and don't change your name just because you made a mistake and you became viral that people would want to search for you.

Whoa! I didn't realize this was even the case with Facebook! I guess you should be able to change your name, but why would you want to if it is not a typo? Maybe it should allow for drastic changes , but typo fixing, or adding/subtracting prefixes??

The policy of only allowing you to change your name once every 30 days makes sense, as it prevents people from creating fake accounts and using them for spam or fraud. However, as her account was hacked and the name changed by the hacker, I think Facebook should allow your sister to change her name back to what it was before. Has she tried contacting support and asking?

I didnt jnow that you have to wait for 30 days to change you profile name. However I think it is fair for all the user as many of the facebook user change their name often for scamming people. It may be really frustrating on your side but as for the rest of the user it is just a fair policy.

I do not think that Facebook should allow this to happen frequently. You choose your name and you make a profile and that is it. Why the change? If you wanted some creative name, you could have chosen it when you were making a profile? There are many people out there with fake names and fake profiles and Facebook thus does not allow changes to happen more often.

I believe that having the 30-day interval of having your name changed is a great precautionary measure of Facebook. Despite its hassleness, I believe this is to avoid people using Fake accounts that they can easily switch their names to. I think people should just accept this because it’s for their own protection.

I don't think Facebook should allow names to be changed as often as one wants to. Once in 30days is a good measure. People are trying to connect with you on Facebook and if you keep changing your name, they won't find you. Also, why would anyone want to keep changing their names (if the haven't been hacked?). People who change their name almost every other day are up to no good.

I never experienced the 30 days duration of facebook in changing profile picture. I always managed to changed mine without waiting for that interval. I think Facebook has it rules depends on the country you belong.
