Do you pay cash or card?

During the holidays I would withdraw some spending money and leave the rest in the bank.  If I need to buy something in the mall or supermarket I would just use my ATM debit card.  Using a card to pay for things is safer than having a sizeable amount of cash in the wallet.

I mostly pay by card since cash is hard to get in my country, and isn't really worth anything. We also use USD cash, but it's not a commonly spread practice, not to mention it could be dangerous having something so valuable on you.
As for the local currency, we use debit or credit card for almost everything except street vendors who don't have card readers.

I rarely pay for something with card because I don't feel comfortable with it. Even when I order a delivery and there's a discount by paying for it via a card I still choose the option to pay with cash. You're simply more safe and secured that way nowadays.

You just spoke my mind.i do same even when I have my cards with me I always prefer to pay with cash than paying with my card. Some criminal minded people in the stores have devise means of stealing from people's card so I prefer to pay in cash in peace and that's it.

I have heard this several times and this is why I always trust cash over any other forms of money in making payments for items.

I agree with you. I also prefer paying through cash on delivery. Paying through card is so hard for me as the world nowadays is full of people who are greedy for money.

It actually depends. If I am buying something but dont have enough cash I will pay it by debit card. During this season I prefer buying everything in debit card because you have to wait for a long queue just to withdraw money. Lastly most of the atm machines now is down because people are doing their last minute christmas shopping.

I prefer paying with cash. That is the case because I want to save some money on my credit card so I could be able to buy some new things next year, such as new console for gaming. But earlier this month, I forgot that I did not have any cash so I had to pay with a credit card.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
That is another thing. I have also noticed that making use of the credit card will come with charges and might make one to spend more than planned as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

burgosmichael24
Using credit cards has the tendency of giving you a habit of purchasing things beyond your spending power. It has the principle of "buy now pay later" that can give a negative effect in you. Credit card is only good if you know how to use it properly.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

theresajane
That's the hard thing about credit cards. You are tempted to spend money while taking the risk of paying much more than what you have spent.

I try to use a card because it provides a record of the transaction or purchase. There is always a lot of fraud and theft that occurs during the holiday season. I want to be able to dispute charges that I see and get them reversed.

I always go with cash for some reasons which are swift transactions and ensuring that there is no errors after I must have paid. This is because the banking sector in our country is not that always awesome which makes us not to work pretty fine when it comes to making purchases.

I used to pay for cash. I have a debit card but I'm comfortable using cash when I purchase. I only use my card to fund my PayPal account when I purchase online.

I always pay with cash. I only used my debit card to pay for my grocery items once for I forgot to withdraw my money. Even if I used to pay in malls through cash still, I found using the card to purchase something a little convenient. You don't have to count your money, you just have to let your card be read by a scanner input your password then there you go, you're already paid.

It's pretty much the same as you get to spend money you already have. What I don't suggest people do is buy things using credit. As for me, I always pay in cash. I believe it's safe, and I don't want banks to have a record of things that I spend on.

It actually depends on you if cash or card, but much better circuit board because some retail store give you cashback when you buy a product using your card that's why I always prefer for the card, but its up to you in how you use your money in a good and responsible way.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
That's true, cashback or even credit card rewards programs can be useful benefits of using card for purchases - as long as you're paying your credit card statement on time to avoid being charged any interest. That's what we do and we earn a few hundred dollars a year in cash back!

I usually use cash when paying something from supermarkets or convenience store or any type of payment that where I could use my cash. I don't usually withdraw some big amount and I don't carry my card to avoid panic buying. I just have some allowance through out the week. I only use my card through online shopping who doesn't have those cash on delivery system.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
Regarding online purchases, I still go for Cash on Delivery if it's available. The thing is that it's hard to get refunds if something didn't work out in the transaction. And I don't want card providers to have a recorded history of what I purchase online too hehe.

I prefer using cards, specifically credit cards. I use cash for food or stores where they don't accept cards. I don't count my change, I just accept it and put it in my bag or wallet which is stupid I know but that's just me that's why I switched to credit cards. I think cards are much safer because when you lose cards (especially debit cards), you can always report it to the bank because banks have measures to protect you when your cards are lost or stolen whereas cash when it's gone, IT'S GONE.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
When I have the choice I prefer paying with card - like some others have said I just prefer the safety of a card. If I lose a card, I can call my bank to cancel it. Lose a wallet full of cash? Good luck seeing the money again!

Some stores in my local area are still cash only establishments though, and when that's the case I've just got to deal with it and use cash.

I use both, cash and card. When my money is not enough and I don’t have time to withdraw, I use card. But if I can have an access to any ATM machine, I withdraw cash first. So I guess, I still prefer using cash. For me, it’s always better to buy things with cash rather than credit.

I pay mostly with cash I don't know but it seem I'm so used to it now. But down here experiences have made me to be more safe with my cash than using my card. I know it might be more convenient to use card but it isn't same for safety. So I will keep using my cash than card.

I prefer to pay for the online stuff with card and the phone wallets. I think phone wallets and the payment processors are lot better for paying. As you can use them for cancellation. And also that works out for the payout on some of the offline options. You can see that cash is still the king in the offline markets where you can pay for those small money like 1 bucks or so. I make use of the netbanking option too these days.

It depends on what I'm buying. If I'm buying little items that cost very little than i pay cash but if it's a larger item in a supermarket i prefer to do a bank transfer. I use my atm card occasionally but i don't really like it cos my money has gotten stuck a number of times and the hassle of clearing that up is often frustrating. I've never had that issue with bank transfers

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Cash is better to use, hassle free and very fast transactions. The card is also good but it has its limitations and sometimes disappoints you in some ways. When using cash you will know how much to spend because you need to depend on your cash on hand.

I do have a debit card but I don't use it for payments. I normally use cash to pay for any purchases or bills although I feel the inconvenience and fear of having a big amount in my bag or wallet. I prefer cash so that I can control my spending. I will just use the available cash on hand while still having some amount save in my ATM.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, you're right and I have to agree with what you said. Using cash is convenient in controlling the spending. I carry around cash as well but I never carry a large amount. Carrying only what you need will ensure that you'll only buy the essentials, it will also eliminate the unnecessary purchases.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I prefer using cash. What I do is withdraw the amount I'll need to spend in a month then I go home straight away and calculate my spending and budget. Whenever I go out I don't carry all my cash. I leave most in my drawer and I always keep it locked. I'll only take what I need and add a few extras just in case.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
Same here. Cash is king for me. I only bring a set amount of money with me all the time when I go out. Although I still carry my debit card in case of emergencies (like being involved in a car accident of some sort), that would be the last resort.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
I have to agree that using a card, any card, should only be reserved for emergencies. I'll definitely stick to a debit card than a credit card. I remember using my credit card on one of my trips to the Emergency Room. It honestly wasn't the best idea but I didn't have a choice.

It also feels good to have a package of dollars in your hand, rather than one plastic card which can be easily lost. You feel overall more secured and stand firm when you have real cash and not virtual one.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree. Especially when you travel. A card might be handy in big stores, but when you try to shop at the small ones, you need to have cash with you on the local currency at all times.

I always try to pay with cash so I can feel that I’m spending money. With a card, you don’t feel like spending your hard-earned money. It’s only a card, right?

Once I paid a $500 phone with a debit card (not credit) and it felt like I was getting the phone for free. One swipe and the phone was mine. Later, I paid some food with cash and $6 felt like too much. Using cards just distance yourself too far from the sense of spending.

If you have little self-restraint like me, always pay with cash. Your family finances will be much in order. With cash, you can’t spend what you don’t have. Credit cards make it too easy for us to fall in debt. Debit card, while a bit better, can still drain your bank account dry before you even know it.

This depends on the area and situation. Some areas and establishments here in my place don't accept a card. They would prefer the old fashion way, paying by cash. Personally, I prefer card since it is a lot more convenient and safer to carry around as opposed to carrying big money with you. I only keep a little amount of cash, just enough to pay for transport.

I don't usually pay by card. My parents would always tell me that it's better to use cash so you can monitor your expenses better - and I agree with this principle. When using card, there is this illusion of having unlimited cash, up until the credit card bill arrives.

I always like to withdraw money from my bank account and use it for whatever.I think that using your debit /credit card to pay for stuff can be risky because you can end up spending too much. Its also easy for someone to steal from your credit/debit card. The best way is to carry around cash.I know that this too has its dangers but at least if someone robs you they only take the money you currently have.

You're right, it's something psychological as well. But a person who can control himself won't do it. We're humans after all, and our power of will can do anything. The most immidiate problem with cards is the fact that it can be abused by someone else, who is not you.

I usually pay by cash because the feature of paying by card is not enitrely available in most of the stores in our country. It’s a great thing for me also because I don’t have a huge amount on my card yet and I usually receive my money on-hand. Paying by cash has been the custom in our country and will probably still be in the next few years.

I always try to use my credit card to pay whenever possible whether or not it's holiday season. I find it more convenient as I don't need to carry so much cash, I have all the transactions being recorded in a bill, and I can pay them off every month later. I can also earn the points for redemption later. I am not worried about spending too much as I always spend within my budget and I always clear my outstanding balance monthly.

I think that most of the time I am paying for cash when I am buying something during Christmas season because I find it more convenient and because I am already used to it for a longer period of time. Although sometimes I am using my ATM to pay for my purchases to some supermarkets but I rarely do it only when I don't have any available cash

That may be true that ATM machines have longer lines during holidays. But, that's only the case when you are in the malls or supermarkets. So, for people who have trrust issues when using card for transitions, that have no choice but to look for ATM machines with lesser lines or just bear with the line.

If it's groceries, mall and restaurants, I pay using cards, I do have a gcash debit card which I use for bills up to $40, I use it to pay for meals in fast food places and in 7/11. More than that I'll use my bank ATM card which can also be used as a debit card. If it's exhausted then it's time for me to use my credit cards that I really hate using because it's really not good to be in debt.

Both. I just use cash when I'm paying for something that I can pay for or something that isn't within my needs (to prevent the bad "buy now, pay later" mentality). I use card when I really need to pay for something but I don't have the funds or if I'm really sure that I can pay for it later.

One of the disadvantages of using cash for a major purchase is that many credit cards offer as a standard benefit a doubling or other extension of the warranty on any electronics or other warranted item you buy with the card. They also make it easier for you to get your money back if the product fails quickly and the retailer isn't helpful.

I always have cash in my purse together with my credit cards. It depends on the type of transaction on what I use for payment. When I buy small things that amounts to less than $5 I would use cash because it takes time to pay with a credit card. But for big purchases like appliances and restaurant bills the credit card is my mode of payment because it is convenient and safe.

Whether or not I use cash depends on what it is I am purchasing. For small to medium purchases, the risk of bringing the cash necessary to make such a buy is outweighed by the security one might feel. Phishing schemes and skimming devices are far too common, especially during the holidays.

There is, of course, a place for using cards. Big purchases require larger amounts of cash which would be, quite frankly, frightening to be carrying around. The money could be stolen easily, and there'll be very little paper trail unless you happen to be luck enough to have stacks of bills which are new and are in sequences, and you know the serial numbers of the bundles you carry with you. Which is, more often than not, not the case.

I have always paid through cash before, back when I haven't learned about freelancing and doing jobs online. This year, I just discovered earning money and cashing out through my Paypal. Since I am not from the US, I can only cash out my earnings through my card. The charge for withdrawing the funds is quite substantial here in my country so I prefer to use card right now for cash I earned through my online jobs. Other than that, I mostly use cash in my daily transactions.

I think cards are better because when you have a lot of cash in your pocket, you are more prone to danger and pickpockets. Also, you can earn additional money through interests just by resting your cash in banks.

This is something I've heard multiple times, which is why I prefer to pay for things with cash rather than any other type of money. You can sell your old automobile and put the money toward a new one. Visit this website and inquire about sell my car online for cash. They will reimburse you for the vehicle's fair market value. The more information you give them, the more accurate their estimate will be. They offer cash for junk automobiles of all makes and models in any condition. They will give you an offer since they have no limits.
