This is also my idea that Google has its own database system that has proprietary right for their exclusive use. When Google came out in the internet the tagline was about being the fastest not only in the west but in the whole world. That tagline caused the exodus of the users to shift to Google and I was one of those users. My guess on the speed of search has a relation to the kind of database that they are using.

There was a documentary that explained it took a large portion of an entire nuclear facility to power their databases and servers. This is astounding, furthermore is the fact that this is not common knowledge.

I wonder what the ratio for revenue / jobs created would be for Google's overall presence.
It is very impressive.

The database Google use is No Relation Type with name BigTable. FaceBook uses Cassandra. If you try to develop a new Google here are some suggestions of Open Source Non Relation databases: MongoDB or CouchDB
