Is Geo content that important for SEO?

I have noticed that the geographical location is very important for Google when a search is made. So do you think that most keywords and phrases should include the geographical location so as to help in the ranking, or not? Because I think that sometimes it leads to more lengthy phrases, which cannot be very reader friendly. And there is always the tendency that the user does not include that city or state in his search, thus resulting in a negative result overall as the page may feature less prominently.

Adding GEO content is always good for a website if you sell a product or service to the area around you. Obviously if you can sell globally you'll want to target bigger keywords since you can ship anywhere.

GEO content is great for brick and mortar type businesses who are looking for online leads. Increasing your rankings for "Town Keyword" type keywords will bring in a decent amount of customers from around your shop.

A great way to increase your rankings for GEO targeting is to post your optimized content on third party websites/forums and have it linked to a GEO optimized page on your website. Even if you can't get a backlink on the page you're posting to, post to it anyways and make sure it's optimized content. This spikes your rankings almost over night, well at least within a couple weeks if done right ;)

Also, be sure to get a google places listing. This will help a lot with GEO targeting people in your area.

Be sure to build second tier links to all your posts, social profiles, listings, etc. Even if they don't have direct links to your website, this will help you out in the long run and also help build brand awareness if someone does happen to come in and share your posts.

If your website is aimed locally, then geographical content will be very useful to aim your website towards specific locations. For example, local restaurants; there is little point to optimise your website for rankings worldwide if you only operate in your local area. Therefore, it is important to have keywords with GEO modifiers. A GEO modified keyword is a keyword plus a location so for example, people may search “Restaurant London” and if you want to do well in that search term, then you should have content related to that on your website. When you are using Geographic content to improve your SEO, it means you only compete with competitors in your local area rather than all websites nationwide. This means you are much more likely to rank higher due to lower competition. However, this method may not be as useful if your target audience is very broad and includes all geographical locations. However, I think there is no harm adding some geographic content to improve your SEO for some locations but make sure your website is also optimised for non-geographical search keywords. Otherwise, you could lose out if you focus too much on ranking high in specific geographical search keywords.

Hi I think above all covered very good answer. And I do agree with kennchronic MasterA. It is always not necessary to target geographical content or keyword. Yes it is very useful if you target only locally and it is completely depend on your intention or goal. If you would like to set up any business locally and your only targeted audience from your own country, here geo targeted keyword very importance and it will work very fine. On the other hand if you target any product for intentional user or clients you must to think widely and MasterA give superb example when you need to target geographical or internationally.

Perhaps if the competition in your location is pretty small then I guess adding the geographical location is an important element when it comes to the search engine. Some of the local businesses here always include on their websites not only the country but also the province or region. Their reason is when there is a search of the niche in a particular area then they have a leverage and has the strong chance of landing a good position in the search list.
