Forum introductions

Do you have a subforum where all forum introductions go (such as each new member gets their own thread) or do you only have an 'introductions' thread, where every new member posts? Which works best for your forum?

I think that each member deserves their own posts. This makes it more special I feel.

Yes I like it when everyone has their own post.

So true! And, it's a nice way to make forum members feel right at home.

Yes Beverly that it does. It makes them feel like they have ownership over a thread as well.

Having ownership is very good on a forum. It makes it seem like the place is much more personable.

And, most times, the new members will come back to respond when someone welcomes them to the forum on that thread. That sense of ownership is a good thing as it keeps the new member coming back to the forum.

As a member, I would prefer to have my own thread in introducing myself. That is easier to trace unlike when there is only 1 thread for all the introductions. When there are more than a hundred new members with their comments then it is a merry mix. Anyway, I want to add that introductions should not be limited to name and origin. It’s preferred if the new member would give a short description of his career or educational background. It’s like being more personal.
