    How do you deal with gossip about your forum on other sites or in the news?

    Gossip isn't the worst thing as most people don't take it too seriously. And, even if someone is talking bad about your forum, they are still advertising it and that could lead to new members.

    Some people have nothing better to do than gossip. If you are confronted over accusations, simply brush it off as rumor and say you won't dignify gossip with a response. That will put the other person on defensive rather than trying to constantly defend yourself and your site.

    Great point Sharla. I like that answer a lot. Everyone should be like this and then they will not have to worry about gossip as much.

    In another thread where I mentioned a local forum that had breakaway members, rumors flew in the air about the negative aspects of the forum especially when 3 new forums sprouted. The admin of the original forum did not even lift a finger although he was straightening the facts on the boards of his forum. Members of the original forum did not believe the rumors and eventually it came to pass that the rumors stopped. As they say, rumors die a natural death because it has a short lifetime.
