    I think.this is the most widely violated rule, a lot of people are doing backlinks on sites and in forums which doesn't have any relation to their site.

    I do agree that backlinking to scam sites might give you negative resulta. Sticking to high authority sites is still the best way of getting positive results from your backlinks.

    Most of the webmasters are in hurry to get backlinks that they start backlink with any sites that they come across. However, building a lot of inferior backlinks is even worse than not having any backlinks. You should always try to build backlinks manually. If you cannot build backlinks, try promoting through social media and generate social signals. Social signals also help in site ranking.
