Google pays attention to all the meta details now including meta description, meta title, etc. The meta description is especially important as it's used by Google as the description for your website. If you don't include a meta description, then Google will simply excerpt the first few sentences from your page/site to include as it's own description.

It may be surprising for some when they know that I only learned about tags in this site. I was really wondering what those tags are for whenever I would create a thread in forums. There are some forums that require tags otherwise the created thread will be in error. But now that I know the purpose of those tags, I always try to put in tags that are sensible and relevant to the topic of the thread that I was creating.
