    Are free advertising/promotion forums good for SEO?

    I'm always seeing these free advertising/promotion sections on forums. Usually they're on webmaster/admin forums and allow the member to place a free ad. Just wondering if these are good sites to leave an ad/backlink for your own site. Do they help SEO or just direct traffic?

    I don't think they help that much, rather, it's an incentive to those who join that forum.
    But the admin and mods should guard this section a little tighter as spam posts might come in everytime.

    Some forums are nothing but promotion. Maybe the free advertising niche was popular in the past before the automated forum posting tools came out, when it was easier to moderate the posts, as many posts on more recent forums are nothing but spam.

    But promotion forum is not all about posting links to your sites and blatantly posting it on threads, right? There's definitely a section for that. Of course, there's a discussion how to do promotions and such.

    Some forums are actually all about advertising and offer very little in the way of useful information. Those forums are usually over run by spam quickly. Where as a forum that has a free advertising section in addition to useful subforums (relating to marketing, etc) is likely to attract a better crowd.

    All forums are good as they are dofollow and the forums are targetted in the same niche! Are free advertising/promotion forums good for SEO?

    I guess it would depend on the kind of forum. I was invited to a new forum with maybe a trickle of members only that in one day there were only less then 10 active members. That kind of forum is of low quality and I don’t think it will do justice to your backlinks when you post in the advertisement board. With the backlinks it is always the quality that we should be looking for.
