Should your domain name and business name match?

If you have a business name, should you always seek a matching domain name or go for a niche specific domain name that has a broader appeal in searches?

For business branding, you must have a matching domain name. But if you have a niche site, you might prefer to target the keyword instead.

If you are an affiliate or rely on Adsense for your earnings, a keyword domain is better as it gives you better SEO benefits. The matching domain name is only relevant if you own a business.

That's assuming you can even secure your business name as domain name. It might not be available. And, then what?

There is no reason your domain name could not be available for TLD purchase as you are the only one allowed to use a name that is registered to you.

In my opinion.. Yes, always. Whatever your business is called, I say you should always seek to get that same domain name for your business website. Should your domain name and business name match?

If you have an Adsense info site, such as one featuring purely informational articles monetized by Adsense, then you might consider a keyword rich domain name. But if you have an actual business, you'll want a domain name that matches your business name.

If possible it should match. Sometimes this is not possible because the name of your business would be already taken for a domain. I wanted to launch a business with the name Travel Nepal. I went to the local administration and found that I could use that name for a business (local administration wants you to have a unique business name, a name that has not been registered, or copyrighted). I wanted to register a domain, however, Travel Nepal was not available. I dropped the idea. If you have same name for a domain and business, it will be easier to market your business and website. People will remember.
