Should price be a factor when choosing website hosting?

As a webmaster you have to look at all factors for a website to be successful: from the domain name to hosting. We know that domain names are of critical importance for any web site and as a webmaster you need to think about good hosting for any domain.

Web hosting is critical to help you grow further your web based business. We see lot of hosting companies providing services and several packages. Usually, we may think high price hosting company may be better than one who is charging a low price. Besides, support to the client from hosting companies should be another top priority for any webmaster.

What do you prefer, high price or low price for a hosting package. Does the price of hosting matter as long as support system is good?

What is your expectation?

For me it depends on how much bandwidth, or diskspace I will use. I'm always buying cheap offshore hosting from Vietnamese hosting companies. My website hosting is like $3 per month and it seems to work very well. I have enough diskspace, and bandwidth, and I could probably downgrade the hosting plan to a plan that is cheaper, but I currently don't feel the need because $3 is a great price. For a year, my hosting costs me a little over $36. You can't beat that!

That is very affordable. I agree that the bandwidth and the disc space are two very important features you need to take into account when choosing a web hosting plan. Besides price is not always the most ideal comparing factor as you also need to check what your requirements are, and it also depends on the site one has.

Hi Everett I am sure bandwidth or disk space always major factors for any hosting package. And this is first and top priority to run any website to overcome bandwidth limit exceed. But, price may another factors. Some of hosting company offering huge facility with unlimited bandwidth, but price bit high and some of packages with low price but bandwidth limit. So, in this case high price may preferable and support may another vital issue. Because, if you get any problem by hosting, support may first required. If it is delay regular visitors may go away due to site unavailability. So, I think reasonable price with unlimited bandwidth and support may top priority for getting any hosting offer.

I usually pay a little more ($9 for shared hosting) because I host my sites in the US. I put all my websites on servers that are ran by a company in New York because not only is it local, but the perks are pretty good for the price.

Most of my websites are on shared hosting servers, but they're not loaded with 100 websites like some companies will do. I think they max out at 15-20 websites per server. Another thing that I really like is that I can pay an extra $5 (to get a dedicated IP address so that my website seems more independent in the eyes of Google, Yahoo! and Bing. Having a dedicated IP address for your website is one of the factors the search engines look into when ranking your pages.

Another thing I really like is that there is no language barrier when I send in a support ticket to the hosting company. Since they're located in New York, they obviously speak English. They also respond extremely fast, or it just seems like it because they're only an hour ahead of me so when I submit a ticket while I'm working, they're working too Should price be a factor when choosing website hosting? The CEO normally responds to most of the support tickets which is really nice to see. You're not just contacting a support representative and getting a canned response, the owner and founder is responding back to you with a detailed answer. And since he's the founder and CEO, you're sure he knows what he's talking about Should price be a factor when choosing website hosting?

In the end, paying for hosting doesn't have to be expensive. You can pay $3 to $15 a month, or get a bigger discount if you pay annually. Now if you want to set up a dedicated server, you'll probably have to pay at least $50 a month and that's where it starts to get pricey ;)

Price is generally the first thing that most people tend to consider before making any buying decision. The same applies to web hosting. However it is critical that one refrains from focusing too much on the price and fail to consider other important factors, such as support, and the features that are being offered in the web hosting plan. It is best to look up different options and compare them on these factors, and not only chose the cheapest one you find. Looking up reviews about each option will also enable you to make a good decision that factors in everything.

Of course. It's like the main thing people look at whenever they want to buy something. It's not that people can't afford or anything, it's just you also want to make sure that you are paying the right service and also making it worth it. Expensive web hosting generally offer more features and probably solid ones.

My sister takes care of all my hosting things, she offers hosting and I actually don't think she bills me for it so I think I get it for free. I'll have to check my bills from her but I don't remember ever seeing hosting? Hmm nice.

But to answer the question I believe as with any product or service price is just one factor that comes into it. There is the actual quality of the product or service offered, there may be extras included in a package and then there is the support from the company.

I would always rather pay a bit more, know the product or service is quality and that the customer support is excellent.

Do I prefer low or high price for a hosting package? Obviously, low price. Although most of the time cheap prices mean low quality, there are often exceptions. It is possible to find cheap and quality hosts although there aren't many. Generally, I am willing to pay a high price for high quality hosting. However, it depends in the project too; if using a high quality host will make me lose money for my project, then I may not choose that package. There is always a tradeoff between profits and host reliability, especially for small businesses. Higher uptime generally increases profit so one may argue that it is worth the investment.

I forgot to list the dangers of using offshore paid hosting that is fairly cheap.

Things you need to be aware of are:
  • Over selling
  • Scammy or spammy websites on the server
  • Illegal websites

These are basically three main factors that I would be very concerned about. If a website is blocked from search engine results than the other websites that are hosted on the server could be potentially blocked as well. So before you ever try to find cheap hosting websites, make sure to do some research about the company before investing into their website hosting services. You will save yourself a lot of time and hassle in the long run.

pricing should be one of the factors while choosing web hosting, however, pricing should not be the only factor to choose web hosting. You need to consider the package type, reputation of the hosting provider, and customer support. There is no point in choosing a host that is really cheap but the service is very poor, However, it is also true that bigger price does not mean, higher service.
